I looked on the forums at dndbeyond briefly yesterday, and didn't see any questions about Apple products being PC..... Hopefully someone asks soon

The video mentions being able to bring things in from other games/properties (i.e. Optimus Prime).

Any word on if there would be an option to use Sigil to play a game that doesn't use 5e (or D&D) rules?

I'm also curious about what the options are for modifying the grid.

Could I choose to use hexes instead of squares?

Go gridless instead of squares?

...Change how distance is measured? (for example, using "1 inch = 3 ft" rather than "1 inch = 5 ft")

According to a friend who was at GenCon, yes, you would be able to use it to play other games. They are going with less pre-built rules integration.

I asked in the General Discussion Forum on DDB yesterday but no answer as of yet. Fingers crossed.

Edited to add: Also worth noting that the Unreal engine (which they're building on) is designed to output to both Mac and Windows. While some tweaking needs to be done for each OS, there's no real reason not to release in both versions for the Beta.

I do not actually give a damn, I have being playing and buying electronic games for over 30 years and am well aware of the ephemeral nature of the medium. There is an element of condescension in this post. I know that it is not forever to have stuff online, especially in propitiatory formats. Even the much touted pdfs are not really a replacement for books. Good electronic archival practices are beyond most people.
But if I do not get to play online, I do not get to play at all. I am interested in project Sigil, not at any price but I am interested and wish it success.
Now I have a lot of sunk costs in FantasyGrounds but I also have players that could not join me on FG because they do not have the hardware or bandwith to run it.
Cool. If you go in eyes open, it's your call. Caveat emptor applies to all transactions, this is no different. I'm not really going to engage more than that because, apparently, discussing the business practices of a business launching a new business venture at an event where they describe how the selfsame business venture will operate is verboten now. And I'm a good boi. The bestest boi.

From the perspective of a gamer, that's cool. Depending on the price for the service and how difficult it is to import/create non-D&D assets, I might consider that. (I've never had a DDB account).

From a business perspective that's also potentially smart. WoTC could take the role of platform provider & lore/story creator, while allowing the community and other companies to carry the burden of creating mechanics and product. ...not a great analogy, but kinda like a TTRPG version of Amazon or Netflix.

I would consider it predatory if they used loot boxes akin to how they sold the old D&D minis or MTG packs now.

If they do sell items that you can know what you get when you buy, then fine.
Old? The current D&D mini line, produced by WizKids, uses the same model. Randomized blind boxes. Which are different from "loot boxes" in video games. Most pre-painted, collectible miniature lines use this sales model, and have for decades. It's not predatory. Neither is the randomized, blind nature of a pack of Magic cards.

If you don't care to purchase collectible products in randomized, blind packaging . . . that's cool, but it doesn't make the practice predatory.

I would be surprised if the digital minis and other assets for Sigil end up in random, blind bundles. If they do . . . it won't bother me one bit, I just probably won't purchase any of them.
