D&D General Dmg previews up

I am not sure what you mean. I see an appropriate amount of interest, not some overwhelming display of excitement here.

Personally I am interested in the art, lore glossary, and revised monster creation rules. I like art, I don't like looking up D&D lore (I have mostly ignored for 30+/- years) and having it one place is great, and I make a lot of monsters and I want to make sure they don't mess up the monster creation guidelines from the 2014 DMG.

But I would not call myself excited and definitely not that excited.
I'm actually quite excited by the Adventure and Setting material, and the art.

Convenient that you lose interest in proving a point you cannot actually show... also, I am not seeing a second quote so, no, that does not help.
Maybe I am misremembering. I see no benefit in looking it up or proving anything here. This is just silly discussion / distraction. It means nothing to, I thought, anyone.

EDIT: I did check and I thought I had also quoted Micah's comment that you quoted in your comment I originally replied too. That was the comment I thought I was also replying too.

EDIT 2: I lost interest many posts ago, I have a problem in that I have a hard time not responding to people who respond to my comments - it feels rude to not respond. So I often comment way past my interest (which was only my first post on this subject really).

So, I just watched the entire video and realized, that while I play D&D and love the game, I am by no means a "gamer".

Nothing in the new DMG holds much interest for me, and frankly speaking, the things which might I feel will not be done in a manner to my liking.

I just don't see how people can be this excited about it...

Ok... heading out to mow the lawn now so I can yell at the kids later. ;)
New shiny, popular brand, strong marketing, a lot of people that IMO really overvalue art in a game product.

I'd probably be more excited about it, if every time I turned around I didn't have people going on about how it was the worst decision ever, how it is completely immoral for me to buy it, how my taste must be trash to like it, how it is a scar and a stain upon the pristine reputation the game had back in the 80's, ect ect ect.

I think there is a lot of potential for the game to get bigger and more awesome over time with some of the decisions made here. I just wish other people could see this too (I know some of you do, it just gets hard when we spend all out time arguing with people who insist it is garbage, sight unseen)
I've seen as much of 5.5 as anyone (my friend has the new PH and I've looked it over) and still don't care for it. Hope that's ok. Not sure how the presence of dissenting opinions can affect your excitement about something, unless said dissenters are in your play circle.

This. Once you are experienced, you just don't need it. I bought the 3e DMG when 3e came out, but rarely used it. When 3.5 arrived, I didn't bother to buy the updated DMG. We played 3.5 until right before covid hit and I never once regretted not buying it.
I on the other hand happily bought every DMG from every edition prior to 5.5 and never regretted any of them, even 4e's (an edition I played and ran but later abandoned).

I'm not sure "I've looked over a friend's copy" counts as having seen as much of the ruleset as anybody.

1e, if you take it as Gary's manifesto (with rules), is an interesting read. It's a terrible at-table game manual though.

2e: the most boring D&D book I ever read.

3e: pretty solid, though I think it's forgettable in that I literally forgot much of what's in it.

4e: the only readable core book in 4e prior to Essentials. I might not enjoy much of 4e's style, but the DMG actually explained it.

5e: As an experienced DM, it's an interesting treatise on the roles of the DM. But it's a bloody nightmare for a new or inexperienced DM.
Thank you for showcasing how people can have different opinions. I enjoyed all of them, 1e's most of all (it had the most details).
