Not really. If the monsters in the 2024 MM were 2x as powerful (and they will not be), that doesn't make them incompatible with 2014 players, it just makes them harder to defeat. It would mean you can't swap them for the same monster in a 2014 adventure though.
exactly, it would throw the whole encounter building math off (remember, they stay the same CR). They would not be compatible

@Zardnaar, for example, the ancient green dragon:

2014
CR: 22
HP: 385
AC: 21
attack / save: +15/ DC 22
DPR: 151

2024
CR: 22
HP: 402 + an extra use of legendary resistance
AC: 21
attack / save: +15/ DC 22
DPR: 186

The 2024 version is a little tougher from a raw numbers; however, it is really more versatile with it charming abilities and spells that make it more dangerous than the raw numbers.

that is not the only measure of compatibility. I don't personally care about encounter building math. However, like I said, they will not make the monsters 2x more difficult, not even close and the encounter building, well who knows what the new math will be

10% buff plus abilities

Nystul's Magic Aura to change a creature type to "humaniod".
Magic Jar to take control of it's body.

Possibly a Hold Person or Suggestion in the middle to make it go along with your plan.

Definitely takes some setup.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding something, but I’m pretty sure magic aura doesn’t actually change a creature’s type. It just changes what type it reads as under divination magic.

The 2014 version reads: "Mask. You change the way the target appears to spells and magical effects that detect creature types, such as a paladin’s Divine Sense or the trigger of a symbol spell. You choose a creature type and other spells and magical effects treat the target as if it were a creature of that type or of that alignment."

The 2024 version instead reads: "Mask (Creature). Choose a creature type other than the target’s actual type. Spells and other magical effects treat the target as if it were a creature of the chosen type."

It's a subtle difference but basically the 2024 version works against all spells and magical effects, not just ones the specific ones that the 2014 version worked against.

Oof, that’s… a bad change…
