D&D (2024) PHB 2024 Is Hilariously Broken. Most OP of All Time?

5e 2014 was able to limit power creep with:
  • bounded accuracy
  • ability score cap (soft 20, hard 30) and level cap (20)
  • max 3 attuned magic items
  • no rules for crafting magic items

5e 2024 will give rules for crafting items, let's hope that the pre-2014 delirium does not return

I don't allow that, you are casting a spell, not activating an item.
Good for you, it's a good house rule.

We had that before. It wasn't a big deal.
Really? The so-called "Christmas Tree" effect was a constant in my games, in every previous edition, but especially when the PCs could craft magic items at low cost and without chances of failure. They evrn theorized their builds keeping into account the items.
This was a problem for many tables in 3 edition years

It's my ruling based on how I interpret fast hands and scrolls. You aren't activating an item when using a scroll, you are casting a spell that your PC could cast if they had it prepared, had the spell slot and material component.

We still have attunement, we don't know what the crafting rule details are yet. It's always going to be up to the DM to decide whether or not the PCs know how to craft a specific item.

EDIT: finally got around to watching the video. Not only are some components going to be extremely rare (might be available in The City of Brass or Sigil), it's up to the DM whether or not it's even allowed and what, specifically is allowed. It's a non-issue.

Idk, man, I started DMing with 3.5 where we had flying, invisible wizards who would cast save-or-die spells against enemies that didn't have legendary resistance or Solo stats. Druids had Wild armor and shields with unhittable ACs transformed into animals while casting spells AND having an animal companion. This was just the PHB. 5.24 still seems tame compared to the heyday of OP builds.

Yeah, as much grief as 3e deserves, there were some awesome parts like lots of character customization and lots of cool magic items.

Good times.

3.0 is the most broken edition of all time but it required a lot of non core stuff to do it. 3.5 PHB mostly theoretically higher level stuff and the Druid. 4E had that kill Orcus thing with a Ranger but was mostly theoretical.

So far a few of us have found the following things that seem OP. Even worse they're very self contained and are available fairly early on.

1. Warcaster feat. Reaction casting to buff allies.
Costs a feat,
costs a reaction
cost a spell slot in the end,
still have CONC limit,

best thing about it is; not being bored as a healer!

2. Grappler feat
Lots of potential builds mostly abusing spike growth and spirit guardians. Basic idea drag opponents through spike growth edge or run around with a cleric and have multiple characters do it.
this was true before new PHB, you could do about 1000 pts of damage with right build(exploit) already.
3. Conjure Minor Elemental. Not 100% sure it's fine at 7 but from 9+ there's some crazy numbers.
this needs to be addressed, simplest solution. No upcasting option for CME
4. Some sort of Monk weapon mastery abuse with daggers and unarmed strikes. Still work in progress. Looks like more damage than the -5/+10 feats without the -5 part.
it's +1d12 potential damage at level 17. for a feat? hardly worth it.
5. Some sort of turn yourself into a Kraken build. Work in progress.
haven't seen that
6. Level 10 cleric abuse with spells like hallow.
Hallow is really not that good of a spell even when ignoring cost, with a cost, it's terrible, seems like a lazy hot-fix.
still can be removed with 3rd level spell.

was hoping for ability cap at 18, but well...
