D&D (2024) Treantmonk's Ranger DPS video:

I attached my older post for your convenience.
I really don't know what you meant with your gotcha statment.

This is what I wrote before that for your convenience.
Why would I need to read your reply to someone else to understand your reply to me? You replied to me, so I replied back, and then you acted like I needed to know that it was single target damage when I'd never said otherwise, so said yes agreed he said that.

The key to 2024 Ranger is focusing on Wisdom and taking a 1-level Monk dip for martial arts. This is an easy multiclass that gives them a bonus action unarmed strikes and lets them use handaxes and daggers while doing 1d6 with dexterity. It also lets them use magic spears, staffs or maces effectively.

Then load up on spells with feats. Also use truestrike at level 5 to mitigate no extra attack.
Interesting thought ECM03.

If you have the time, could you give some vague summaries of what such a PC looks like around like levels 6 and 11?

It always was. Spamming Eldritch Blast was never a good strategy for doing good damage except that it's a solid backup option when your primary damage source is unavailable (out of range, out of spell slots, easy enemies not worth the resources, etc)

It could more or less keep up with OK martial builds.

Sorlock ramped it up into good damage.

Yes.

That's not a gotcha. He says that, repeatedly. He says it might well be better for multi-target and control, he's not testing for those things with these videos. He's not against the Ranger. He likes the Ranger. He just thinks it's not a good single-target damage dealer.

Tbh his thumbnail does give the impression there's a problem.

I don't think there is except maybe two may be to good now with the ability to get 4 or 5 attacks reasonably early in the game.

He's worth listening to for the numbers but he misses combos and interactions onetime so I cross reference. Also it's white room melee sometines misses damage vs say a gloomstalker with a bow.

I don't theorycraft average damage myself i look at potential average damage instead.

You also pointed out the Barbarian. I've been looking at that as well as it's first up if I do tier lists of the archetypes.

Well here is one I am currently playing at level 5:

level 6 will be similar just with extra attack, Silence and Spike Growth.

My Origin Feat is Magic Initiate with Shield, Truestrike and Message. At level 4 I took Shadow Touched with Wrathful Smite.

At level 9 I will probably do a Wisdom ASI, but Fey Touched with Dissonant Whispers would work well too, and I would take that if I did not get Misty Step through my subclass. Level 10 would get you 3rd level spells.

At level 13 on this particular character I am going to take Dragon Fear and boost Charisma (because of synergy with Beguiling Twist) but if you went a different Ranger with Fey Touched at 9 you could go Warcaster or Telepathic or Observant here for a 20 Wisdom.

I might look at multiclassing again after level 14 and going to Bard although Cleric would also be an option. You have CWB at this point and the 3rd class gives you a lot more spell slots and the Ranger is flattening out here. I still think it is viable going forward from here even if you stay Ranger.

I did this with a Dragonborn specifically playing into Fey Wanderer and Beguiling Twist, but an Elf, Dwarf, Human or maybe even Tiefling would be really good here too.

The only subclass I would not recommend it on is beast master because you already have your bonus action covered up with your beast.

How are you planning on making truestrike work with more than 1 attack?

"well, hack my legs off and call me shorty!"

who would have thought that by chaining a class to a 1st level spell, it's damage will suck
The 100% not the problem.

TWF Ranger did not get returned Zephyr Strike nor Searing Smite.

TWF Ranger has no spells to boost melee damage

Yeah. The context is he had roughly tested all the martials and up until this point their DPR fell within a fairly narrow range. He thought this was a good sign, and theorized they'd all fall roughly within the range. And then his theory was blown when he got to the Ranger. Which, given his prior theory, was an uh oh there is a problem.

I think it was specifically Berserker Barbarian with a two handed weapon.
