Ah, nice! Did you find the division into six regions made sense, and provide good hooks for different campaign styles?
I think the regions are very open ended in terms of details which I like.

Greyhawk itself and the immediate surrounding areas are detailed fairly well, while still leaving room for improvisation for the DM.

The Regions all get a couple of paragraphs that give big overviews on the area and some adventure ideas, plus a table of named locations and a sentence or two of them.

It’s good if you want a largely blank canvas to paint on but not exactly a detailed setting. And honestly I like it that way.
 

I can't recall specifically for the 5e DMG, but it's been frequent advice to limit access to defensive items for the players, because they all are sporting +3 plate and +3 shield, it becomes hard to balance. Feeling of invulnerability can reduce tension etc.

Anyway, it now seems to be that making defensive items, like a staff that cast Shield 6 times a day, fairly trivial. Am I right to be concerned?

Pretty much what the original Greyhawk wads for the first decade or so.
