It's weird how every culture has a different definition of human nature. It's almost like the culture itself is mostly responsible for what we call "human nature." Hmm...

Cultural definitions of human nature are not definitions - they are the stories they tell themselves about human nature for various reasons.

Actual human nature is determined by by biology and neuroscience, not cultures.

Our ability to transmit and maintain culture is an aspect of "human nature".

Pretty sure it means I need to lose weight.

Well, start by getting rid of all that emotional baggage!

Pretty soon, I will be releasing my self-help book: Snarf's Self Help: All Problems can be Solved With Little Boxes and Gin!

Basically, if you have any bad feelings, or emotions, or trauma ... put it in a little box, and put that little box away in a closet. And never, ever open that closet door.

And if you ever feel like opening the closet door? Well, that's where the gin comes in!

It's weird. I had some major gastro issues several years ago, and I've had a colonoscopy, and a few endoscopies. There was one time where I didn't actually fully lose consciousness. That was pretty miserable. But generally you go down, and wake up pretty easily. Feel a little groggy after but nothing like what you experience after a major surgery.

It can be a little unpredictable occasionally, not the least from inconsistencies in the anesthesiologist. I had one case where I wasn't completely out, but was generally loggy and unaware enough that it didn't bother me. My wife, on the other hand, apparently had a problem with the anesthesia getting cut off in the middle and didn't enjoy the result.

Most of my experiences have been "Start anesthesia, wonder when they're going to get to it, realize I'm in the recovery room feeling relaxed when I notice there's more voices than I should be hearing".

This was much in contrast to my actual surgery, where while I dropped out and didn't wake up until later, I woke up feeling like hell.

I got a feeling
That you could be feeling
A whole lot better than you feel today
You say you got a problem
Well that's no problem
It's super easy not to feel that way

When you start to get confused
Because of thoughts in your head
Don't feel those feelings!
Hold them in instead

I think people have different conceptions of it, but I think human nature itself around the world is fundamentally the same (what often divides us is thinking it isn't). Not saying culture isn't also important. But I do think there is a basic humanity that everyone shares, regardless of culture

Well, that's of course the gig: confusing what you see a lot around you is just culture; if you see the same patterns of behavior globally, including away from commonly derived cultures, its probably about being human.
