My favorite D&D thread is where a newer player/referee discovers some aspect of the game and needs to either inform everyone about this new thing or argue about it...when the rest of us have known about it and been arguing about since 1974, 1977, 1981, 1984, etc.I wonder how common it is that I am fine with D&D, except don't much care for D&D threads. It feels like every time it's either about a known factor (you signed on for this, so no complaining) or some edge case that almost never comes up at the table.

When I read The Elusive Shift, my primary takeaway was that the arguments and the errors haven't really changed all that much since the beginning. Really put me off arguing about ... just about all of it.My favorite D&D thread is where a newer player/referee discovers some aspect of the game and needs to either inform everyone about this new thing or argue about it...when the rest of us have known about it and been arguing about since 1974, 1977, 1981, 1984, etc.
Yeah, shows you just how pointless it is. People like to blame the internet for the arguments, but nope. Turns out it's either inherent to the geek/gamer subculture or it's inherent to humans as a species. When I read The Elusive Shift, my primary takeaway was that the arguments and the errors haven't really changed all that much since the beginning. Or someone that agrees to play even though they don't want to, and then tries to sabotage the game saying it is "hilarious" esp with a newb gm. It's like ***ker stop that. I haven't done that, though I did catch myself tearing down D&D to a younger player, who looked up to me as a an elder gamer, and the hurt look in their eyes made me feel about 3" tall.My favorite D&D thread is where a newer player/referee discovers some aspect of the game and needs to either inform everyone about this new thing or argue about it...when the rest of us have known about it and been arguing about since 1974, 1977, 1981, 1984, etc.
It will always be weird that in the US it's okay to show thousands of blood-soaked murders, but showing a couple of mammary glands is some kind of outrage.Arguments about snakes and bewbs goes back at least as far as the Garden of Eden.
People who are busy running/playing/enjoying a game often don't have the time to yap about it online.I always wonder how is D&D so popular if everyone hates it.
