It's a cold and rainy night and my insomnia is in full swing, so I decided to make myself a hot toddy. I was halfway through assembling it in my favorite mug when I noticed that we were out of honey. Undeterred, I substituted a few tablespoons of sweet mead for that spoonful of honey and let me tell ya: I don't think I can go back.

Thanks everyone, for your advice on home ownership. It's looking more and more likely--we were approved for the loan today.
As a GC, I always tell people to watch the money pit. lol

Location is everything though, zillow or the realtor will be able to give you similar listings in the neighborhood as to values. If buying new, that is fine, if existing, plan on doing updates before you move in. Don't buy the property that all the other properties drain into.

Okay, first point -- does everyone on this board living in the US also somehow live here in greyduck/hotdish-land?
It would seem so. I live in the SW metro.

  • It is really convenient to have pharmacies and grocery stores either in walking distance from your home, or right on your commute (if you have one).
This one was huge for us when we decided to buy our current home. There's a Target less than 2 miles from our house that I can get to and be home in less than 10 minutes if we're cooking and realize we ran out of something. The 24 hour pharmacy we use is a couple blocks further away. There's at least a half dozen restaurants we enjoy in the area. Aside from the preferences in the actual house itself, the community around us is ultimately what sold us on it.

I was just a bit thrown by your reference to converting Matchbox cars for use with it,

Oh no - I was building and modifying 1/24th scale plastic car models from companies like Revell and Monogram, and mounting guns on them from models of helicopters, fighter planes, tanks and smaller-scale naval vessels...
Of course, this was back in the day when those models were like $5 each, and you could also find plenty of them at yard/garage/tag sales to scrounge for parts.

Can the STLs for 3D print be easily found? (I havent looked yet.)

Unrelated to anything on the boards...

If more people listened to me, there'd be less people I have to listen to, <bleep>ing about how their poor life choices have screwed up their lives without ever realizing that it was their stupid and careless choices that led to them being in their current state.
