Spoilers Doctor Who s15 (or 2) [[spoilers!]]

Sure it has. So has Trek. I can even remember the many times people made the exact complaint you're making right now, going back years--because they've been doing it the whole time. You can google long lists of examples.
Indeed. In fact it brings back memories of my favourite episode of TOS, "The Omega Glory", in which Kirk caps it off with a speech about the US Constitution. You can't be more on-the-nose than that.

And man, talk about mixed messages. After their 'solution' I definitely do not stand with UNIT. Aside from the incompetence needed to allow things to escalate to that point, how does letting a monster loose against someone you don't like equate to protecting the world?
They could have just had Conrad release the Shreek because he claims it's fake and that's how he got his arm bitten off, but apparently it was necessary to further paint Kate Stewart as unfit for her position.

It happened to an antagonist so the audience is supposed to ignore the fact that the head of UNIT flagrantly abused her power and nearly murdered someone.

Also she's dating a much-younger subordinate, uses child soldiers, and goes off gut instinct for hiring people rather than doing even basic background checks, but murder is worse than that.

More Mrs Flood. I am finding that a bit annoying, as they're doing the exact same thing they did last year with Susan Twist.
The current fan theory is Mrs. Flood is causing The Doctor's adventures to turn back on themselves and that's why this season's got so many callbacks, references, etc.

Oh, absolutely. Please, don't think I was predicting the end of Doctor Who. I have no idea where I heard that they were rebooting the series. I must have totally imagined it. My bad.

I also heard it, just after the speculation that Gatwa was leaving at end of this run. Mrs Flood might be linked to incarnations of that ththe Doctor preceding William Hartnell and Susan

Heh. Well, thank you for that. At least my brains haven't entirely fallen out of my ears. :D

For those who are looking at this episode and reacting strongly, that's largely the point. There are no "good guys" and "bad guys". They were looking to stir up people talking about the show and went straight for the jugular here. People are going to be talking about this for a long time.

But, just in case people forgot, the last "Earth Protection Agency" was Torchwood. No, not the Jack Harkness one, the one before that. Y'know, the one that had the PM of England murder thousands of aliens who were running away? The one who let the Battle of Canary Wharf happen? That Torchwood?

UNIT also gave us the Oster Hagen Key (sp). It's not like UNIT hasn't shown itself to be very ruthless from time to time.

That's bad.

People should be talking about Doctor Who because it's a good show, not because the showrunners are deliberately starting controversies.

The focus on driving social media engagement has been a net negative for the show with the resulting focus on mystery boxes and doing things purely for shock value.

I'm leaning toward Flood = Rain = Rani. But that's pretty much exclusively based on the name and the fact that she seems aware of Time Lord stuff (particularly the TARDIS).

But... I'm not as familiar with pre-9th Doctor lore, but my impression is that the Rani was very much a cold calculating scientist type – as in, "I'm going to run this experiment and see what happens, and while I don't want the people of this planet to die, I don't particularly care if they do." And that's not the vibe I'm getting from Mrs. Flood. And RTD's been doing a lot of stuff with names and anagrams, but I'm thinking this might be a red herring, similar to how S. Triad = TARDIS was last season. So I don't know.

Yep thats a good encapsulation of the Rani, and while Id love to see her back, not getting Rani vibes from Mrs Flood (except for her sinister turn in the Christmas special)
