The Sycorax showed up with every intention of enslaving the human race, their first response to refusal was cold-blooded murder of diplomats, and then The Doctor threw a temper tantrum because Prime Minister Harriet Jones decided to shoot them while they were retreating and got her removed from power.

The Doctor doing so got The Master elected Prime Minister and resulted in humanity being enslaved until a reset button happened.

It would be one thing if the Sycorax had surrendered and then been killed, but they weren't. They were retreating with no reason to believe they wouldn't just regroup and come back after The Doctor left. Which had happened previously and was in fact the reason Prime Minister Jones gave for shooting them.

Long story short Torchwood killed a ship full of unrepentant sadistic murderous slavers (all of whom were enemy combatants) who refused to surrender and in fact mocked the idea of compromise and peace.

There's a massive difference between that and Kate abusing her power as head of UNIT AGAIN by feeding a defenseless man to an alien.

There was no reason to do so other than sadism. It would be one thing if this was meant to be evidence of UNIT being corrupt (along with them using child soldiers, the nepotism, etc.), but it's not.

Wouldnt be the first time the Doctor or UNIT have had some grey morality including outright pettiness and sadism. Right back to Hartnell and Troughton, and notably with Tom and Colin Baker, Mccoy and a few of the new lot too.

Some of my favourite characterisation of the Doctor is when he goes all grim "dont mess with the oncoming storm..."

If we're arguing about the morality of the government in the Whoverse, I think it's pretty obvious it's pretty messed up. Just look at Torchwood. Or more specifically, Children of Earth, where the government was complicit in handing over children to the 456.

I thought the themes of
-Fake news
-Woes of an ex companion
-How does authorities work in the full glare of social media.

Are worthy of study. But I found the whole thing flat, the monster was just very silly , and the uber preach in the TARDIS was just too much

Umm... murdering retreating enemies is typically seen as pretty morally repugnant. They were beaten, they were never coming back.

He had a gun. He wasn't defenseless. And, let's not forget that this was a sadistic murderer (he tried very hard to kill someone to get into UNIT HQ) sociopath who was incredibly dangerous. If you're fine with murdering defenseless retreating enemies, I'm not really sure you have much of a platform to complain about feeding a murderer to an alien.

And, I'm almost afraid to ask, but, "child soldier"? Morris Gibbons? The mutant who gained accelerated knowledge from a passing asteroid? Not really a child soldier is he?

What, UNIT can't block a phone signal from within their own headquarters? And assuming they wanted to send a message rather than just stop his, this is the message they chose to send? "Yes, monsters are real, and we'll keep you safe from them - so long as you don't disagree with us. If you try to make things difficult for us, we'll set those monsters loose to eat you alive."
