Spoilers Doctor Who s15 (or 2) [[spoilers!]]

Suspension of disbelief since the current Doctor's been so heavily involved.
Again, huh? You mean 15? He's been involved with UNIT once - in the end of the last series. Well, twice if you figure The Giggle, I suppose. But outside of that? How is he "heavily involved"?

But, doing a bit of noodling around, it appears that this episode is absolutely the setup for The War Between the Land and Sea which is what the UNIT spinoff is supposed to be. Very much a callback to 73 Yards, I think.

Calling back to the most pointless episode of the last season doesn't bode well.

At least Space Babies was well-structured and provided relevant information even if it was otherwise terrible.
Oh, wow. Yeah, our tastes are not going to match up here. I LOVED 73 Yards and thought it was one of the best episodes of the season. Fantastic SF story. Did you like Children of Earth?

The story would have been fine if it wasn't taking up space that could have been used building the plot.

Doctor Who doesn't work with 8 episode seasons AND overarching mystery box plots, there isn't enough room.

To go back to a previous discussion on this thread, how does Lux make any sense as a member of The Pantheon? He doesn't have power over the thing he's the god of like every other member, his powers all deal with film and cartoons.

I would believe The Maestro was a member of The Pantheon even if it wasn't explicitly said they were because they had enough similarities to the others that it made sense.

I would not believe Lux was if the lines confirming it were removed.

Now I do agree there. Eight eps is too short. Twelve would work much better. One can hope.
I wish we could go back to the old days, where a multi-part story could be an entire season unto itself. I don't even know why the format was retired, other shows do it today just fine.

Moffat and RTD are producing content for social media. The point is driving engagement, not telling good stories.

The mystery box plots and plot threads that never get fully wrapped up are to create as much online speculation as possible.

Not sure I'd go that far.

I imagine it's far more prosaic. Money. The BBC just doesn't have the cash to do 24 episodes of Doctor Who in a year. 12 was about the max and 8 is probably enough to keep the marketing machine (which makes a LOT of money for the BBC) going.

They did it with Jodie Whitaker. Guess what happened? People complained.

Doesn't really matter what they do, does it?

Yeah I guess you're right. But Jodie's run was cursed. So many people just wouldn't accept her. The very idea of her portraying The Doctor was enough to make some people froth at the mouth. So I don't know if it was the format that was the real issue.

But like with many things "Oh that run wasn't a success, we better not do anything it did (even if it was a good idea)!" is the lesson that was taken away.
