What is the source for that?

The Menagerie. Kirk says he met Pike when he took over the Enterprise. So Pike was present (and pre-accident, as when Kirk saw Pike in his box/chair in the episode, it was clearly the first time he'd seen him in that state) at the time. He is not aware of Pike's accident; it was recent (at 1:11):



Ironically, I think Kirk says he only met Pike that once. Which SNW clearly shows otherwise.

Given that the series naturally ends with Pike leaving the Enterprise and the existing ensemble (partially) dissolving, but his character arc has a major foretold event to resolve which takes place later, and a TOS episode to tie into to really tie everything up I expect a series finale full of temporal anomalies. It worked out for TNG.

Have we? We've seen two short out-of-context visions. I believe that they have left room for interesting storytelling that adds meaningful dimensions to the event. All need not be what it seems.
