Thunder... thunder... thunder... Thundercats! Ho!

Announced this week at San Diego Comic Con by Dynamite Entertainment and Lynnvander Studios is an official TTRPG featuring the adventures of Lion-O and his fellow Thundercats as they struggle against the evil machinations of Mumm-Ra.

A 250-page rulebook will cover Thundercats lore, characters from the cartoon show and the comic-books, and, of course, the rules of the game. Lion-O, Cheetara, Tygra, Panthro, Pumyra, Mumm-Ra and more will feature in a game which is heading to retail 'soon'. You can build your own heroes to join the Thundercats--or, indeed, the Mutants.

There's no release date or system details yet, but we'll keep you updated when we hear more.

Update — the game has been confirmed as powered by 5E, and is coming to Kickstarter soon.

Feel the magic! Hear the roar! Thundercats are loose!

I actually watched one of the videos for once! This could be an awesome RPG! I have to admit I didn't really start watching the Thundercats heavily until the early to mid-90s, but when I did I realized it was very much like an ongoing D&D campaign throughout the series. You had your Monk, your Illusionist/Wizard, your Rogues, You Leader/Warrior, and your advisor/wise person/clerical person. This got even stronger with the group dynamic when season 2 came about with a better wise person/clerical person along with another fighter or two!

It was totally a D&D show with different trappings!

PS: @Morrus my answer to your question in the video regarding Skeletor is that it depends on which cartoon series he is in. Overall, he's more of a Lich. In the 2000 series it gets a little more complex, as he is a Magic-User (and a powerful one at that, while also being a very competent swordsman wielding two swords at a time), but instead of being an undead with a hidden power source, it shows that he gets hit and has his skin melt off his face while leaving him still alive. In that he could also be a Lich, but it doesn't ever reference anything other than his magical powers and the accident that caused his change in appearance.

"Through the character creation process, players can pick from among newly created subclasses like the Mechanist, Path of Collision, College of Omens, Ancient Spirits of Evil and Good Domain, Circle of the Croft, Operator, Warrior of the Claw, Oath of Destiny, Evil-Chaser, Heckler, Metamorphosis Sorcery, Mongor Patron, and Magician."

Always interested in new PC resources. Some of this stuff is rather cryptic at this point, but a Heckler rogue sounds terrific, and if Metamorphosis Sorcery is a viable shapershifter build, that's a cool niche.

Mongor Patron required a Google:

"Mongor is a goat-like demon who grows in power where ever he finds fear."

You had me at "goat-like demon." You had me at "goat-like demon."

Yeaaah I did a little googling on it, I guess I was wondering if anyone knew any of the people on the team, had experience with their previous works, whether it was any good, etc. Their website lists four people: We turn imagination into reality and we love every second of it. From left-to-right, Josh makes sure each game we make is smooth, sleek, and presentable; Tommy is our contract and business developer; Peter is our project management overseer; Dylan keeps all our math and mechanics consistent.

Oh, copy that. I bought my wife their Buffy LCG and thought it was really well done. Certainly not just a blatant cash grab like some other companies treat using IPs. Also, I think the Shadowrun game was well received too. So I can vouch they're good at card games at least.

I'll be watching it closely myself, but nothing I'm going to preorder without seeing more of the final product. The fact they're recycling artwork (fantastic artwork, to be fair) makes me hesitant. Hope to be surprised though; I know I was with the Transformers RPG.
