That's explicitly part of Vance's pitch to Ake, so no doubt that was part of his thought process while staffing the Academy.

Anyway, Episode 5 was both delightful and destroying. Considering my fits of giggling over the opening, and then to be weeping at the end? Bravo Starfleet Academy, I'm now officially sold.
Yup, same here. Really touched the heartstrings. I kept expecting the man himself to appear, but that he doesn't is kind of the point.

I really like SAM. Great episode.

I really liked the episode and that again it was relatively low stakes (Well not for SAM - but nothing earth/universe/federation shattering).

Considering how they are portraying her makers, I'm REALLY wondering if the writers ae going to go the same route the Orville went!

Hello,

Enjoying the season so far. While certainly some tropes are in play related to young people and school (high school/college in the stars), there is a great deal of other interesting material going on.

To look ahead, I think there are two things we can expect (or at least I expect):

1) The Doctor will have some form of revelation/reflection on out-living all of those he originally knew, loved and respected. The several times he has been asked about loss and basically said "get over it" makes me think they are building to a story of some sort. Perhaps not here in Season 1, but eventually.

2) I think the rivalry between the cadets of Starfleet Academy and the War College will be subverted somehow. Again, maybe not this season, but I can't help but think that something is being built up for a later event. While with a limited budget it makes sense to use consistent faces for extras and guest parts, the several repeated War College cadets (notably the Vulcan, Romulo-Vulcan, "Tattoo-Girl," and is it Kyle who fancies the Klingon) is building to something. My guess right now is that our villain from Episode 1 returns for revenge against everyone, and all the cadets have to work together to survive the challenge.

Other thoughts?

Cheers :)

Well, that sucks. It looks like streaming for "Starfleet Academy" on Crave (Canadian streaming service) has been pulled, unless you have Paramount+. I was getting it through my cable subscription to CTV SciFi Channel, through the CTV app, then for a couple of weeks on Crave after they deprecated the CTV app. I can still watch it but only live now.

Each episode has gotten better and better. E6 was darker than I expected, but very compellingly done.

Well ... there's other options. I'm still annoyed that E4 cut off the last 10 minutes when it was broadcast.

Actually, E4 did not cut off early. It was only advertised as ending early (at least in Western Canada). If you used PVR you missed the end, but watching live I caught the issue and rebroadcast on CTV Sci-Fi is the correct 1 hour 20 min episode. That said, in my area rebroadcast was only at 2 AM (or 1:45, I forget which) the next morning after original broadcast. So, if you did not realize the issue immediately then yes, you missed out.

But that was a CTV Sci-Fi or a signal provider issue.

[edit for spelling and grammar]

Should have mentioned in my last post. I agree that the episodes are getting better.

E6 did indeed up the tension and the stakes. Agree that it was compelling. Some of my previous predictions came true, but in a different way then I expected. I did not expect to see the fallout that we got. I suspect we see tighter relations between the two groups of students going forwards.

Cheers :)
