Like anything, I think it comes down to individual player preferences. Telling people that their character has to look a certain way -- especially coming from people who don't play or even like those ancestries -- is the real issue.Whenever this topic comes up there is always at least one poster that says something like “women don’t want to play characters with beards.”
But literally every woman who has played a dwarf in a game I was involved with was really into their beard. Which is not to say those posters’ experiences are wrong, the are just not complete.
Maybe it is just that I like to mess with ideas of gender expression in my fantasy (and in life) as do most of the people I spend time with and have plenty of cross-gender play.![]()
My wife, for the record, is a big dwarf player and is not a fan of dwarf women with beards.
