TURTLEDOME!: Battle Bone (DM: KenHood, Judge: Lord S.)

Disposition of Origami Rats...
On the left side of the chasm are five rats, probably about the size of a human. One of the rats stands on top of a boulder. The other rats surround it.

On the right side of the chasm are two big rats (which were tearing and folding paper to make little rats). Near them is a pile of little rats. The diameter of the pile is about twice a long as a big rat.

All the rats appear to be made of paper, folded in origami style. When the rats move, it's like watching a film with missing frames--herky-jerky.

So...

Seven big rats and a large pile of little rats.

You hear Marco's voice. It booms around you. "Hello? Helloooooo?! Where did everybody go?"

"RATS!"

"Getting ready to attack people talking in my head."

"I beg your pardon!"

ooc: are we near enough to move and attack? This sounds quite a big encounter guys. Let's pay attention.

Hadarai turns at the sudden voice.Hear that? Let's go, bull-lady! he grins at Vaunea, while quickening his pace towards the pack. Emral, Drivan!! Blast the small ones to ashes!

Initiative:19

[sblock=tactics]There are a lot of these things, so I think the best way to handle this would be forming a front made up by Vaunea, Hadarai and Finnian, separated by one square each, and behind them, Emral and Drivan. Like this:

Code:
H V F

E D
If they're too far for the meleers to reach them, let's take up a formation and ready actions for when they come into range. The spellcasters can attack in the meanwhile.[/sblock]

Emral goes along with the party, readying a glowing ball of light in his hand to fling at the rats. Old man, can you see us inside your head? If so, watch our backs while we get rid of the rats! Emral yells this out.

when in range, he winds up and lets fly his magic missile, to smash into the nearest rat.

[sblock=Initiative, and Hadarai]1d20+2=6 Erm, Emral winds up his throw for a while, er, before lobbing his Magic Missile.
1d20+4=14, 2d4+4=6 Oy, throws like a... well, Genasi Wizard. Ahem.

Hadarai: Emral would smash the back ranks, but seriously *all* my spells are flame based except MM and Sleep (which I don't have prepared now, and it's a daily). If we kill the old man by incinerating his mind, we're dead meat. Saving him might net us a bigger crowd at the TURTLEDOME!, hopefully, but not if we leave him worse than we found him.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Yeah the old man might go a bit crazier... but that one looks like a swarm. And swarm are ****ing nasty. Seriously. Also they have vulnerability to area attacks...so...yeah, I'd say scorching burst all the way.
Also, which daily has Drivan prepared? [/sblock]

Origami Rat Fight - Round 1

The party moves forward.

The ground trembles beneath your feet. You hear the sound of a massive sheet of paper folding. Of a sudden, the ground rises up.

You are standing on the folding part!

Your side of the paper rushes towards the valley of origami rats. Then, the fold deposits you on the left side of the valley.

[sblock=Terrain Effect (IMPORTANT!)]While on the left side of the chasm, you can move only in vertical or horizontal straight lines, like a rook in chess. You cannot move diagonally. Instead, you would have to move one square sideways, then one square down.

For some reason, things are very linear on this side of the chasm...

Jumping the chasm requires an Athletics check.[/sblock]

Round 1
The swarm of tiny origami rats vanishes and reappears near the edge of the chasm. In an arch of fluttering paper bodies, it surges across--several of its components falling into the abyss. It lands on your side of the chasm and runs at Hadarai, attempting to envelop him in its chaotic embrace.

Like a wave in a stormy sea, the swarm smashes against Hadarai. He feels thousands of tiny paper cuts on the exposed portions of his body.

[sblock=Actions]Move: Run
Standard: Attack Finnian, v. AC (1d20+6-5=20, 1d6+3=9)[/sblock]

On the left side of the brain, the Vocabulary Rat rears upon its hind legs. It waves a paw and says, "Obfuscate."

Hadarai reels and feels a twisting in his mind. Words no longer make sense.

[sblock=Actions]Standard: Obfuscation v. Will (1d20+6=22, 1d6+3=8)

Hadarai cannot speak in a coherent fashion (i.e. expressive aphasia). Save ends. As a minor action, you can force yourself to speak a two or three word phrase that makes sense. As a standard action, you can force yourself to speak a coherent sentence (no more than 25 words).[/sblock]
