Of course they would be flying... Damien thought, realizing he was at a disadvantage. Readying his light crossbow, he shouts, "What quarrel do you have with us?"

Damien: You get ready for what's likely to come.

The knight responds almost ignorantly to your line of questioning "Let go your worldly tether, give up your possessions, serve a greater power!" The vultures circle slightly in the air, maintaining 50 ft of distance from their targets.

Knight: The Knight points at Thaliss. "You will fall." and throws a spear. It hits for 8 points of damage.
Initiates: The initiates speak a quiet prayer and follow suit throwing daggers. One hits for 6 points of damage.

The knight calls out "Surrender now and we can teach you of a greater path!"

Tolan, Thaliss, and Damien act now.

Tolan's hand wants to reach for his sword, but he stops himself, realizing he could not reach these targets - not yet anyways. Instead he pulls out the halfling's shortbow, as he turns and backs up, trying to keep more of the birds and their riders in view.

"I already have a path, but if you wish to come down here, I will gladly demonstrate it for you."

Memories from his childhood serve him well as he draws back the bow and fires at one of the initiates.

OOC: Move: B6
Action: Draw shortbow and fire at furthest initiate (The one in HI:34)

Thaliss intuitively reacts to the weapons approaching and an invisible shield suddenly appears, surrounding him, (hopefully) deflecting some of the barrage.

When he rationally grasps the situation, he focuses his mind and a large boulder appears around him, also engulfing Tolan, hiding them from the flying enemies

OOC: cast shield as a reaction to surprise attack. Hoping to negate all damage!
[sblock=shield]
1st-level abjuration
Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take w hen you are
hit by an attack or targeted by the magic missile spell
Range: Self
Components: V, S
Duration: 1 round
A n invisible barrier o f magical force appears and
protects you. Until the start o f your next turn, you have a
+5 bonus to AC, including against the triggering attack,
and you take no damage from magic missile.[/sblock]

Actions for the round: cast of silent image of a giant boulder located F to H, 4 to 6.
Thaliss also Moves to G6
Note: enemies (and allies) will need to use their actions to determine this is an illusion (intelligence (investigation) vs DC 15) unless they interact with it. My goal is to grant total cover within it.
[sblock=silent_image]
1st-level illusion
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S, M (a bit o f fleece)
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
You create the image o f an object, a creature, or so m e
other visible phenom enon that is no larger than a 15-foot
cube. The image appears at a spot within range and
lasts for the duration. The image is purely visual; it isn't
accom panied by sound, smell, or other sensory effects.
You can use your action to cause the image to move to
any spot within range. A s the im age changes location,
you can alter its appearance so that its movements
appear natural for the image. For example, if you create
an image o f a creature and move it, you can alter the
image so that it appears to be walking.
Physical interaction with the image reveals it to be an
illusion, be cause things can pass through it. A creature
that uses its action to examine the image can determine
that it is an illusion with a su ccessful Intelligence
(Investigation) check against your spell save DC. If a
creature discerns the illusion for what it is, the creature
can se e through the image

"...serve a greater power!"

Uh oh... Damien thought, anticipating the coming thunder.

GREATER POWER!!! Incompetents! Damien already serves the greatest power there is... ME! Slay them at once!

About to act on Archandros' demands, the warlock was shocked when a boulder suddenly appearing to his north, apparently crushing both Thaliss and Aridha. "Get to cover! They must have giants with them!"

Moving closer to the boulder in hopes that another toss would be deflected by the huge rock, the warlock muttered a curse in the direction of the remaining initiate and fired a bolt in his direction. "I guess you do want a quarrel from me!"

OOC: Bonus Action: Hex on the remaining Initiate. Disadvantage on Strength checks.
Action: Attack [roll0]; Damage 1d8+1d6+4 = It doesn't like that combination, feel free to roll if it's a hit.
Move: Move to E3

Ten points is enough damage to kill the initiate rider.

The knight is taken aback. He Flees at his fastest pace his mount will go. The two vultures follow.

The corpse of the first initiate that dropped has a map tucked into his boot. The map shows a crude sketch of the Dessarin Valley and marks a place called "the Spire" a few miles east of Red Larch. It also depicts a strange arrow like symbol by the site.

Symbol attached.

You can see that's not your only company nearby. There is a pair of travelers approaching from the north at a walking pace. They are a fair bit off still, but should arrive soon if you're still here.

OOC: The map depicts the spire at Feathergale Spire on your map. The remaining possessions of the avian riding attackers are five more throwing daggers each and 18 gold pieces, as well as their black feather decorated leather armor.
