Victoria Rules
I think artwork depicting scenery and "nothing happening" are very inspiring. One of the things I disliked about 3e's art direction was that it was mostly action and character based, often just a close up of someone with their mouth open.
I don't mind character art - or some of it anyway - but I run screaming from the 3e style with the out-of-scale weapons and over-the-top look.

Give me something more realistic!

Speaking of which, do any of you know where to find non-cartoonish and non-ridiculous portrayals of Hobbits and Gnomes? Humans, Dwarves, Elves and to some extent Part-Orcs are easy to come by but Hobbits are rare and I've yet to see a decent Gnome picture anywhere.

Legend
This is very D&D-y art. It's the cover of an Appendix N novel - de Camp and Pratt's The Incompleat Enchanter - painted by Ed Emshwiller.
