Alternatively, if two things are operating on the same thing, they are additive. There are no multiplicative functions in 5e - effects do not multiply each other.
I am waiting to see more concrete examples of this. If the features said: You increase the range by its base amount" or something, I would completely agree with you--but that isn't the case. shrug

I am not aware of a rule that says take the greater of two options if they both affect the same thing
IIRC there is a thing about this with temporary hit points. We all know (hopefully) they don't stack. So, if you have temporary HP from two sources, you choose (generally the greater I would assume LOL) which you want. I don't recall if it specifically says the greater, though.

Here it is: you choose in this case:

NB, under optimum conditions the human eye can discern an angular separation of 0.0003 radians. Which at 1200 feet works out at 4.3 inches (tiny). at 40 miles it works out at 63 feet (gargantuan). That's not allowing for atmospheric effects of course.

While you may be able to see a mountain five miles away, that doesn't mean you can see the mountain goat climbing a cliff on the mountain. One of those things where the DM has to make a call.

Besides, how much does it really matter? If someone is flying 300 ft above the battle and can see all creatures clearly, they're going to be safe in many cases anyway. Until that random dragon comes flying along of course.

Actually, for ranged spell attacks it does seem slightly odd there is no disadvantage for a "long" range. I understand why they didn't do it (or I can guess anyway) but still...
