There was a post elsewhere on these forums from Jonathan Tweet, IIRC, where he talked about other classes and he mentioned the Marshal (for 13th Age?), which sounded a lot like the Warlord. So I've come to the conclusion that my primary dislike for the warlord class is the name. "Warlord" sounds very one-note, even more so than Fighter--and worse, it sounds like some dictator who took control by force. But I liked the name Marshal, which suggests rallying the troops for a common cause.

So anyway. I've been grumpy about the Warlord before, but since my primary objection is just the name, I'm more than willing to give it a look. I would prefer if the playtest document also came with at least concepts for archetypes--I don't expect that they're all written up in full at the moment--so I have a better idea of this class's versitality.

The objection to the name is pretty reasonable: I don't think I've ever heard of a modern warlord spoken of in positive terms, and the modern definition seems to imply this is a bit inherent: warlord is a military leader who exerts civil control over a region, which is not really in-line with modern ideals. And "Lord" is a big title for a level one character, have we considered "Warlad"?

I'm actually fine with it being called a warlord, but I can't fault anyone who says "nah". Still, I wouldn't say "nah" at it being called a Marshall instead.

The Marshal was from 3.5 Miniatures Handbook (if memory serves). Might be something like it in 13th Age, too, though. Never checked it out.
