D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Hit or Flop?

And doing so despite them getting absolutely eviscerated by both critics and audiences.
The failure of the GI Joe movies can be traced back to the one writer who clearly went to X-Men and heard the 'yellow spandex' line get a laugh and somehow form that figured that the key to doing a franchise movie was having sneering distain for the source material and felt the need to have multiple characters turn to the screen nd say "Boy, GI Joe is stupid. Isn't that right, audience that paid to see a GI Joe movie?"

That and somehow not being insane enough to capture the spirit of GI Joe despite being a movie where a fart cloud ate Paris.

Nintendo is huge all over the world. I wouldn't bet against this movie.

It is now but pre Switch/Wii Mario wasn't so big outside of America.

In 90s for example Sega won outside USA/Japan the Playstation took.

Not saying it's gonna tank but I'm expecting something like 60/40 split maybe higher domestic/foreign.

Much like D&D got more domestically. Comparatively its bigger in America virtually 0 cultural imprint in say China.

Could be completely wrong but that's the logic. There's a 20year gap where Nintendo wasn't that big comparatively outside US.

Mario's gonna be bait to USA Gen Xers with kids and say under 30's. Well IMHO of course.

I think it'll handily win the box office this week and then probably drop off a cliff in the second week and be a steady performer for parents looking to take their kids to a movie for weeks after that. Kids' movies have to be truly terrible to leave theaters quickly, and the Mario name will keep this one around longer than most.

A lot of adults will probably wait to see it on video, though, especially after hearing their friends telling them to do so.
Me and some friends will go see Mario, but we'll wait for next week, no way we're going to the theatre on a long weekend.

Since Covid we only go 10am type sessions usually outside of the opening weekend or two.

Wife generally doesn't like going full stop so missed Puss and Boots and Avatar 2. Pretty much have to convince her to go or just make the decision.
