It would be nice if BG3 could serve as a basis for future DnD games, but it's built on Larian's own engine, and they likely want to do their own stuff rather than just be the DnD studio.

I mean, in theory they could do both (with enough money and people), but Swen already said in Eurogamer's inverview that they've had trouble when they tried to do simultaneous development on multiple big projects.

The 5E SRD being in Creative Commons could be a huge deal for Larian if/when they lose the D&D license.

It makes sense for them to return to Divinity from a financial perspective because it's an IP they own outright. No revenue sharing with Hasbro and no worries that WotC will eventually pull the license.

However, they could use a LOT of the engine they've built for Baldur's Gate 3 to make essentially 5E D&D games with the brand name filed off, using the classes & races & mechanics in the SRD supplemented by their own original subclasses, just like Solasta has done.

Well, it's reinstalling now. Guess I need to finally settle in my head which I prefer, Valor or Swords.
Just a note, you can't carry over EA saves to the full game and Larian said the full game is so different that you are better served doing a fresh install of the game on launch date. I've been playing a bit of EA to prime myself for full release, but I'm not getting attached to anything I'm doing right now.

I discovered you can't just ditch dead companions ... Astarion got blown up so I was going to just leave him, but I can't dismiss him from the party now that he's dead

The new community update mentions that not only is Geralt's voice a part of the cast, so is Abigail Thorn of PhilosophyTube fame! I love it when two of my separate interests collide.

Not necessarily. They get more of the profits, but there's less profits because Divinity is not as big of a name as DnD. But I could totally understand not wanting to be beholden to WotC.

Solasta is DnD5, but it cannot really market itself as such, so... if you're at that point, why do an off-brand DnD side-story instead of making it a Divinity side-story.
