D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

Not necessarily. They get more of the profits, but there's less profits because Divinity is not as big of a name as DnD. But I could totally understand not wanting to be beholden to WotC.

Solasta is DnD5, but it cannot really market itself as such, so... if you're at that point, why do an off-brand DnD side-story instead of making it a Divinity side-story.

They could use their Divinity IP but the system & engine they developed to support 5E. Basically a 5E game set in Divinity. Would make a lot of their existing followers happy & would retain a lot of the new fans they brough in with BG3. Plus they wouldn't have to either pay or share revenue with WotC (we don't know exactly what the current deal is, or when it expires).

BG3 was in development 6 years. I can't imagine their existing license with WotC will include much if anything beyond BG3.

They have already said that after a much needed break they will be working in divinity 3

Just a note, you can't carry over EA saves to the full game and Larian said the full game is so different that you are better served doing a fresh install of the game on launch date. I've been playing a bit of EA to prime myself for full release, but I'm not getting attached to anything I'm doing right now.

I discovered you can't just ditch dead companions ... Astarion got blown up so I was going to just leave him, but I can't dismiss him from the party now that he's dead
Not for me. macOS (gave up Windows 10 five years ago, handed off my last Alienware laptop to my eldest to play with).

WotC are the ones that approached Larian for this project, and now the DnD part of WotC is headed by people from Xbox... so you'd think they'd want to keep a good thing going (if this sells as well as it seems), but WotC has also put the DnD name onto random shovelware like the new Dark Alliance, so who knows how much they want good games vs games that just come out quick.

What's certain, is that I cannot see Larian going 'oh yeah, we'll spend the next 6 years making BG4'.

As I recall, it was the other way around. Swen actually showed up in full plate to pitch it to Mike Mearls, after finally being granted an interview, as I remember from early press.

What is the name of the cut scene with the dagger struggle? I watched that the other day and thought it was a complete waste of development resources and effort. It was utterly horrible looking. The technology just isn't there yet for that kind of action sequence. More time should have been spent crafting additional companions.
You do know that optimization is one of the last things done. The dagger struggle already looks better in a months old build than it did at the start.

Most recent I saw, was Swen saying that he got in to see the guys (through a friend at CDPR) some 10 years ago, he pitched them 'if you want to make a DnD game, we're the guys for it!', he didn't have a pitch beyond that and thought he didn't get anywhere with them... UNTIL they contacted Larian multiple years later. So he made their existence known to WotC, but WotC are the ones who sought them out for this project.

well, I can't imagine these animations improving all that much and I'm fairly certain I've seen a more recent version too. Even if another 100 hours of work is needed for that cut scene, there are more important things to spend time and money on.

What happened to Mearls anyway? 5e was in good hands with him, but now it's gone to the nine hells.
