I'm going to make a no-full-casters-allowed girl party. But, I cannot be the Barbarian, because that's already taken by the tiefling, and cannot be a Paladin because the constant reaction-ask 'wanna smite?' would get annoying, so...

Half-Orc Ranger with a two-hander? Of course, that big sword would look bigger if it was held by a smaller race, like Halfling. Would give me even more reason to go Ranger and start off every day with Longstrider!

So, what characters will everyone be playing/creating for the game? I'm going to do my first run-through with a dwarf paladin of devotion.

Probably a Sorcerer, I want to be a good face character, with Stealth and Sleight of Hand proficiencies ... firing off a twinned Chromatic Orb from an elevated hidden position was just a lot of fun in Early Access. I'm debating a dip into Bard, but we'll see.

What happened to Mearls anyway? 5e was in good hands with him, but now it's gone to the nine hells.
He's over in the Magic section now. Also I find the books generally better now.
well, I can't imagine these animations improving all that much and I'm fairly certain I've seen a more recent version too. Even if another 100 hours of work is needed for that cut scene, there are more important things to spend time and money on.
I am not really willing to pick you as an arbitrator of what is important. Given that you clearly know very little about the game.

Well I was going to play Karlach, but Swen said play the game once before doing Origin characters/Durge in his opinion.

So I may go full Special Unique Drowflake and go with a Seldarine Drow 1 Cleric of Eilistraee (prob Life or Nature) rest Bard (prob Swords), which is somewhat MAD, and not a character I'd play on tabletop, but I figure may work very well in BG3, and also as a bonus is fantastically annoying to some people, should they hear about it.

a dwarf paladin of devotion.
A true classic there. One of my first AD&D 2E characters was a dwarf who somehow contrived to be a Paladin thanks to a Dragon article and a kindly DM.

I'm a simple man who likes Elven Wizards, so I'll probably play a Dark Urge High Elf Wizard. I haven't decided on the subclass yet.

I honestly don't think Sven's comment applies for the Dark Urge, since you can customise your own character anyway, and while I understand that for the Origin characters (which you can get as companions whose lines of thought you can't know, but then you get to experience what they're thinking in the second playthrough), it doesn't apply for the Dark Urge really. The DUrge doesn't appear in your playthrough if you don't play as that Origin, so I genuinely thought it was a very good idea to get people to play as Origin characters without forcing a certain character on them.

My understanding is that the Dark Urge is a more interesting playthrough if you can contrast them with your previous playthrough. From what I gather, playing the Dark Urge gives you unique dialogue (as the homicidal thoughts entice you to violence) and it's more that works if it's mirroring a prior experience.

That said, they also said it's your game, so take the option that speaks to you.

I do think I'll try a DU Paladin ... but that's not a first game for me.

I'm not planning on playing Dark Urge anytime soon, but I do want to play an Origin character in my first playthrough, simply to maximise the number of Origin characters I can have active at any given time.

The new community update mentions that not only is Geralt's voice a part of the cast, so is Abigail Thorn of PhilosophyTube fame! I love it when two of my separate interests collide.
Yes! I listen to Abigail regularly on Kill James Bond (an excellent podcast). I see Vinegar Strokes (from Drag Race UK S1) is also on there. I still like theory Doug Cockle is playing Drizzt.

And as a follow-up to my character question, I'll be bringing along Shadowheart, Gale, and Asterion in my group, even if Asterion complains and moans about every good act I do lol. If he gets too annoying, I'll just trade him out for someone else as Shadowheart can handle the lockpicking and such.
