Solo Play: Half-elf Lore Bard. From my limited playthroughs so far, skills seem to be important in giving you options to explore to really enjoy the depths of the game. This will give me the most options, I think.

Group Play: I'm going with a melee build. I'll look at what my partners elect to do and then pick a melee class that can give us the skills we're missing. It might be my Great Weapon Gloomstalker Build, a Vengeance Paladin, or a Sword/Valor bard (depending upon whether I want wisdom, charisma or intelligence skills).

I'll wait for the inevitable DLC that takes us to 20 and adds the rest of the subclasses to play a Hexblade or my Archer combo (GloomStalker 5, Cleric of Order 1, Divine Soul 5, Battlemaster 4, Assassin 3, Divine Soul to 7).

Oh, for multiplayer I fully intend to play with my old campaign groups, recreate their PCs and imagine it's the party I DM'd for going through this adventure + my DMPC. Though I need to increase the party size for that, as both parties have 4+ players...

I am planning a dark urge Duergar Warlock pact of the Great Old Ones for an evil and full tadpole experience.

My other I am torn between a druid or ranger for a more good experience

A true classic there. One of my first AD&D 2E characters was a dwarf who somehow contrived to be a Paladin thanks to a Dragon article and a kindly DM.

It always irked me in 2e that dwarves couldn't be paladins. A LG race that exemplified a lot of paladin virtues, but, no, only humans can be paladins.

I'm also thinking about a gnome wizard and a halfling bard in subsequent play-throughs. I guess I feel like I have to make up for the lack of short origin characters lol. I'll play a larger race when I run a cleric I suppose...

Definitely bard. Half-elf lore bard was easily the most fun I had in EA, but I want to see what changes they've made to half-elf before going with them. Might end up doing high elf instead; I find the extra wizard cantrip to be pretty clutch on a bard. Also considering swords bard instead of lore. I was thinking my primary party would be Shadowheart, Karlach, and Wyll, but again I want to see how much they've changed Wyll. For that party, lore bard seems like the way to go. But if I don't like the new Wyll as much, Gale could end up in the party instead, in which case Swords bard makes more sense.

At some point will probably do a second playthrough as a tiefling paladin, as that's what I'm playing currently in an almost-completed Descent into Avernus campaign, and it'll be neat to play BG3 as a kind of sequel to that.

So, what characters will everyone be playing/creating for the game? I'm going to do my first run-through with a dwarf paladin of devotion.
Astarion as a Necromancer Wizard. I want to get that vampire experience and see how biting everybody works. I'm probably going Evil for my first playthrough, with Shadowheart, Lae'zel, and Minthara. I'll probably respec Minthara so I don't have "Wanna Smite?" spam as well. She'll make a decent Pact of the Blade Warlock.
