Spoilers Doctor Who s15 (or 2) [[spoilers!]]

As a long-time fan, I know that there's a segment of the fandom that's wanted The Rani back for years, but I honestly don't think it's a good idea. They'd need to do something unique with her, and "cold, evil, scientist lady" really is one note.

I'll hold out some hope, but at this moment, I'd rather have Missy back.

The Rani is a very different character to the Master though, the Master is Charismatic but Cruel, she's a force of Chaos motivated by ego and obsession. Shes very much the 'evil Doctor'. The Rani was more cynical logic, she's motivated by control and knowledge, but she isnt overtly destructive. Morality is a distraction and the Rani dislikes the Doctor because he's an interfering idealist.

Of course a lot of why the Rani worked was because Kate O'Mara portrayed her so masterfully, OMara was a serious dramatic actress who had done lots of stage work including Lady Macbeth and Catherine De Medici and she brought the same gravitas, and theatrical flair to the Rani. Moreover Omara didn’t play the Rani as evil or mad but as cool, intelligent, and dangerous and never doubted that she could out think everyone in the room including both the Master and the Doctor.

Of course theres no guarantee that the new Rani will follow the same characterisation, but I hope she does, it would be nice to have another Time Lord antagonist who is the Doctors equal without being actively anti-Doctor

and if Bigeneration is a common thing there must be a whole lot of extra Timelord dopplegangers running around 'out there', the Last of the Timelords monicker really needs to be retired.
Good to see the Rani back however. Mrs Flood does seem overly submissive (which is strange for a Timelord especially one like The Rani)

I also love the fact that the Eurovision Song Contest survives and even with the addition of aliens looks and sounds exactly the same
I'm not buying this "I'm the definite article, she's just a Rani" thing, not with evil Time Lord ego. I'm betting Mrs Flood is just putting on the subservient act until she's better placed to usurp her newer self.

I bounced off Dr Who during the Colin Baker years so don’t know about the Rani so that didn’t do much for me. Was exited by the Susan reveal.

“I’m the Doctor, I’m the last of the Time Lords ( except my granddaughter, the Master, the Rani, the Meddling Monk, etc. ).

It's like when Superman was the Last Son of Krypton- unless you count Superboy, Supergirl, General Zod, the residents of Kandor, Krypto the Superdog...

And his bigenerated self, and all of his other incarnations that somehow manage to show up, despite temporal rules to the contrary, for "special occasions."

Ummm. Disney has zero to do with Star Trek. As in nothing.

We get it. You don’t like the new Doctor Who. Cool. That’s all you need to say.

But claiming that you do t like it because of made up reasons is going to get push back.
no but they effectively own Dr who. multiple groups I'm talking about and Strange New worlds is the oddity among star trek shows and movies over the last 15 years. Maybe they've learned thier lesson maybe not. We'll see. The big studios are really bad about getting mad over a series doing better than the one the executives liked better. I"m not blaming Disney on Star Trek but I am blaming them for continuing down the rabbit hole on Dr. Who's increasingly vapid and tenous connection to actually being sci fi instead sci fantasy.

So, apparently mavity is not just gravity with a hip and trendy rebrand, since it's seemingly capable of some things that gravity isn't particularly noted for, including putting people into some form of suspended animation.

Brings a new meaning to "heavy sleeper", I guess.

No that was just the cold. Yeah, it's weak science.

They were in icy cold, but within the gr/mavity field... ish... and the atmosphere bubble was obviously intact.

I wasn't bothered by the cryo thing, but the oxygen thing was annoying. But if you're in cryo-freeze I guess you don't need oxygen? But then anybody would be fine in space. I guess there's the pressure thing.

Oh, it makes no sense. Why am I trying to make sense of it?

Also, 100K people? Even if they had it down to one person per minute, that rescue operation took about 2 months.
