Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I’ve known a few people who have gotten substantial windfalls ($5M+) for a variety of reasons. I also studied windfalls in college & law school.

One concrete lesson is this: if you don’t have a real plan in place when you get your money, you will- on average- fritter it away in 5-7 years.

Of the people I know personally with such an experience, some are on each side.

So even though such an event is unlikely, I’ve had a concrete plan in mind (but not written down) for 20+ years. I’ve convinced my parents to plan likewise.
I have a rough plan, that would also allow me to keep my disability benefits

In many ways it's a key, defining characteristic.

Growing up my parents would often respond to "That's not fair!" with "Well, life's not fair!" and my response would always be... well... shouldn't it be? And shouldn't we be working to make it that way?
Right. It's a daily struggle. The worst is having to obey all the stupid rules that keep things unfair. Don’t make stupid, unfair rules and I wouldn’t have a hard time following them.

No! This is clearly wrong! What if we all work to make life fair for everyone, and somebody doesn't deserve to have things be fair?!? Have you ever thought of that? Wouldn't you rather eleven million innocent people suffer than one guilty person get something they didn't earn?

Also, it wasn't fair for me, so doesn't that mean it wouldn't fair now to make things fair for everyone?? Obviously the fairest thing is to keep things just as unfair as it was when I experienced it!!!!1!

That's the worst.

"I had to put up with all that unfairness and I turned out all right!"

If you want others to suffer because you suffered, you absolutely did not turn out all right.

"I used to think it was a terrible thing that life was so unfair. Then I thought, 'what if life were fair, and all of the terrible things that happen to us came because we really deserved them?' Now I take great comfort in the general unfairness and hostility of the universe." —Marcus Cole, Babylon 5: A Late Delivery from Avalon
