10' Range Increment

Range Increment: Any attack at less than this distance is not penalized for range. However, each full range increment imposes a cumulative -2 penalty on the attack roll. A thrown weapon has a maximum range of five range increments. A projectile weapon can shoot out to ten range increments.
So thrown weapons like daggers, shurikens, and axes with a range increment of only 10' get a -2 penalty unless the target is in the adjacent square? Why would you throw a weapon at someone in an adjacent square -- just hack them with it as a melee weapon.

I think the distance is actually measured from an outside edge of your square. So, in one of the cardinal directions, the far edge of an adjacent square is only 5' away, and the far edge of the square beyond that is 10'. So, you could throw at a guy who was not within reach and still not receive a penalty (since be definition, if he's in that square, he's no more than 10' away from you, otherwise reach weapons couldn't hit him there).

Still, there is a reason why far shot doubles the range increment of thrown weapons and only adds half again as much to normal ranged weapons.

I believe that a 10 ft range includes any adjacent square and any square in contact with an adjacent square. This is basically the same area you would threaten with a Spiked Chain.
