D&D (2024) 2024 PHB Release Hype Thread

We are 1 freaking week from being able to get the 2024 PHB on Beyond or from our FLGS (I'm getting from both). Even with all we've seen in previews from reviewers and hype from WotC, I can't wait to get my hands on the product and start to dig in!

What are you most excited about for the new PHB?

For me, it's really digging into the Monk and Warlock classes to try and decide which will be my first PC in 2024 (if Sorcerer doesn't sneak in and take them both out).

Oh man. I am wondering if I am too late to hope to get one at my local game store. I probably should have stopped by and asked them over a month ago to put me on a list.

I went by mine last weekend fearing the same thing, but was able to get one held for me!

I have to admit I AM hyped. I'm the regular Hasbro/WotC hater. I keep complaining how I wished my group was more open minded. I keep dreaming about older editions. But here I am, waiting for Amazon Brasil to deliver my copy maybe around September 20th.

I'm actually excited to play a Thief Rogue!

With 1 level of a caster class, you'd get access to their scrolls (and can create cantrip/lv1 scrolls on your own, to feed to your bonus action habit). Though, as using higher-levelled scrolls than you can cast is at best a 50/50 roll (d20+casting stat vs DC 10+scroll level), it's best if your character concept incorporates rampant wastefulness and high-maintenance lifestyle as a core part of your identity.

I like how the Thief is just adaptable - you could be the support caster of the party if there are no other casters present, and that level of a caster could be Wizard for the widest selection (and True Strike + Readied True Strike shenanigans), or Cleric if there already is a Wizard in the party (no-one would object to you crafting Blesses on demand)... or even a level in both to cover all the bases! And if someone else happens to grapple/Entangle a target, then you can decide to save on resources and just slip a rope/manacles on them.

My hype has largely died down. Most of my remaining excitement is for actually getting to play games with these rules, more than anything else. That and finally seeing all the art within the context. I think there is going to be some great stuff there.
