4e Heroic Souls (FULL/CLOSED - accepting alts)

But I love fancy magic items. I should have traded my stone. >.<
Well.....
I did say it was the default/recommended suggestion. ;)

In all honesty though I'm not planning on penalizing people for that sort of choice.
It's interesting actually. Wizards get a lot of rituals, which do similar things to the magical items people have been getting (find stuff, etc).

I was considering having the book you're carrying be a bit of a magical reservoir to allow you to cast rituals.
Like x gp is available over 1 week or something.

Haven't had time to think about it in detail though...

Graf: Having it be some kind of path-finding item would be really cool. Fits her "role", and also have some ties to the mystic messages by birdies.
Cool. We'll work it in when you want to find someplace specific.

That would be wonderful, but I will also like some real IC post explaining why. I like your complex writing =P

What rituals are available?

You'd have the ones from your class of course.

I was thinking (very vaguely) about having you wrestle with the book in some fashion to make it give you access to the other rituals on a case by case basis.

I'm not really grasping why rituals are so expensive; it seems a bit expensive like a "mage tax"; the majority of them don't have combat utility and their impact on the world is subject to the DM's decision anyway.

I don't know if I would call it a mage tax, as the entire party is likely to share the bill. Most of the spells are very utilitarian, providing useful abilities that get everyone ready to deal with different challenges. It makes sense to me that it might require some expensive materials to properly perform such complex spells.

which is why you had everybody in the party chip in to help Mirna buy casting materials? ;)

I do agree that everyone benefits. But the wizard ritual caster winds up spending a huge chunk of resouces to buy that capacity and more if they actually want to use it.
(at least that was my experience in the sixth level game... And so you can do what? Cast things like endure elements that are basically story-enablers).

To get Leo's chest is iirc, 500+ gp. What does the chest do? It explains why you aren't carrying around 200 pounds of trail mix and 50 gallons of water. I don't mind that there's a cost I'm just not sure that taking it out of the same pool as the wizards magic items is the best solution.

Maybe some groups will pitch in, but I think most will just expect the wizard to buy and have them (and the necessary components).
