4e Heroic Souls (FULL/CLOSED - accepting alts)

the daze doesn't have to be practical for everyone. I meantioned (or meant to) a person who endlessly circumnavigates the boundary as a possible PC. Scavengers like old hook or people like your friend who moves rocks around or Jeillia all perform actions that are incomprehensible. There are lots of non-window washer options.

I dislike "ruling" per se. I prefer discussion and agreement but currently I think you can have someone whose daze has them going into peoples houses and "wakes up" weeks later having pretended to be their younger son.
I think that's pretty horrifying.

As people get their heroic souls activated (get touch with their inner hero) they'll become more resistant to the daze. Having your character suddenly become vulnerable doesn't fit that. It also doesn't match your backstory or at least it brings up other questions like
1) why can't you remember your parents? Is there another "forgetfulness inducing effect"?
2) other people's backstories include missing siblings you being immune to the daze would remember them
3) the boundary and the daze are, to my mind, linked. If they aren't linked (because one effects you but not another) then why?
4) the daze acts as a sort of barrier to contacting your heroic soul. And the heroic soul is what allows someone to shake off the daze. Logically you'd be a thief level X already and have been for years.

Sorry if some of that's incoherent. If you want a "ruling" my inclination would be to say "I think we can do everything you talked about already without your character being 'the one person who's immune' "

I wanted to say that
*I appreciate you working things like old hook in that makes it much easier for me
*I think everything else looks good (your geeche item AND seeing green eyes together was a cool touch)
*it seems likely to me that you an Karothen would know each other, possibly very well.

Silentounce: One possibility would be for Verulo to awake from the daze periodically, finding himself in a different home each time. When he's "awake", he chooses to live on his own and be independent, but when the daze catches up to him he finds a house that will accept him and merges with it.

I like both of your inputs. I think it fits. So, let's say that. When he's dazed he just kind of assumes a role in someone's household. All those bulleted points you brought up make sense. So, yeah. I'll incorporate the stuff you guys said into the character sheet later.

OK. I've pushed the story forward a bit. Partially to keep momentum up and partially because I think that we can really only introduce so many "past" elements right now.

Again, I've kind of wound up putting words in the mouths of "past-yous". I'm realizing that I'm channeling a bit of Planescape: Torment. Hopefully it's not overkill. Obviously, if you don't like something let me know and we'll work it out.

Invisible Castle
hew,
Congrats on your first 20! Invisible Castle, is, in my experience, no more swingy than actual dice rolling. Having said that... unlike the dice, where you have physical proof of a one (or a 20!) IC is... off somewhere on the internet. Emotionally it's hard to accept.
For a long time I had a strong belief (from my vampire game) that the fewer dice you rolled the more likely you were to generate successes. Not true, of course, but a few weird die rolls make gamers superstitious.
With a natural 20 I basically decided that the combat would mostly be over, "Eldan" spending an action point cinched it in my mind.

I think that Karothen has either already contacted his heroic soul, or gotten very close. I'm thinking that he has some sort of connection to the angel, due to it's having possessed (and killed him) in the past that allows it to awaken him.
Of course, you can play around with it however you like.
Again that doesn't mean you know spells, or anything, just that your default state is not-dazed. If that's too abrupt and you want to drag out your development further that's fine with me too.

To state the obvious the past-yous (Once-yous, etc) aren't you. And they aren't each other. (i.e. the fixer ~= the magus, ditto the two Eldans; though the magus, coming later, is, I expect, keenly aware of what happened to the fixer)

I hope the posts aren't too incoherent (though, of course, not everthing is supposed to be clear either).
Just so we're clear it's not like I have all the events/history of the world set up. I'm mostly spinning off of what you guys have, and a few themes.

silent,
I think you're basically done. We can either work you into the events in the castle, or have you doing something on your own (crawling around on rooftops when you find things, or exploring old mansions in the city, or something else). Feel free to propose something.

How to people (i.e. hew & redclaw) feel about the castle scene so far? Want to keep it going or pull it to a close and start new scenes?
(I see potential for both; though, obviously, it has to end at some point)

I don't want to jump in at the castle right now. I think it would seem a bit out of place with what you guys have going on in there. Let me think of something....

The castle scene is definitely interesting, and has sparked all sorts of questions and curiosities. I'm a bit worried, however, about predestination. [sblock=Graf]Since not-Eldan has killed the Fixer in the past, is that going to leave Eldan paranoid about trusting Karothen, or trusting himself around Karothen?[/sblock] I can see them walking back out of the castle and seeing some looming threat/devestation and then 'waking up', or having the daze catch up to them or something similar, but I worry that if we go much further, then we will have trouble just playing the present selves.

Not to be cheeky but not-Eldan killed the fixer. Of course only Eldan knows that... (Note the spoiler blocks). But that does put and interesting question to Eldan: does he tell Karothen?

I do respect what I'm hearing (or at least think I'm hearing) about finishing the castle up sooner rather than later.
