4e Heroic Souls (FULL/CLOSED - accepting alts)

Okay, truth is, reading over all the posts again to catch up: I just don't know where to take it. I think my alter-ego has sort of just been consumed by something ... and I am at a bit of a loss how to play from here. The only thing I can think is to have the consumption shake Karothen back into the present, but does that mess things up?

Not at all.
In fact that's kinda where I was pushing the story.
Since it was big stuff I wanted to give you a chance to react/develop etc.

The group can just "return home".
Karothen can wake up "at home" (his next scene).
Eldan can have a very vivid dream (his next scene).

We can work in the (patiently waiting) silentouch. (Speaking of, how do you feel about him knowing you?) You guys can make it 'casual' (your HSs aren't particularly closely connected and neither are Karothen and Verulo) or work up something.

Of course, if you're closely related then it's easier to explain why Karothen's awakening by the Opener could "pull" Verulo towards awakening.

Incidentally I've decided that once you awake you'll have 25 points, using the "new point buy system" (you start off with 5 10s and 1 8) and pay with the following cost chart for advances.

[sblock=Ability Cost Chart]
Score ------------Cost||||||||||||||Score------------ Cost
9 --------------- (1)*||||||||||||||14 --------------- 5
10 ---------------0 (2)*|||||||||||||15 ---------------- 7
11 ---------------1 ||||||||||||||||16 --------------- 9
12 ---------------2 |||||||||||||||||17 --------------- 12
13 ---------------3 ||||||||||||||||18 --------------- 16[/sblock]

So if you wanted to buy a 16, you'd take one of your 10s and spend 9 points and then have a 16.
If you want to raise the 8 (of which you have one) you have to spend 2 points to make it a ten and then buy normally.

Some ideas. We could also do more in the "present" castle. Originally I'd thought about having ghosts and fighting them or something.
But, narritively it just doesn't seem particularly interesting.

[sblock=Possible next scene for Karothen.]You're falling. Or floating. You're not sure. Strange colors and shapes float past you.

Something is pulling in your chest.

Then a cranky old voice drags you awake. "Laying about, just like always. Never doing what you ought."

It's dark. He can barely make out old gran's face. He's soaked, and lying in his shop. She is too. ...elf friend friend dropped you... She lets out a long leisurely cough in between mumbles ...he'll come to you soon... accept nothing he offers you... save for his protection...

She starts to totter off out into the rain.[/sblock]

[sblock=Possible next scene for Eldan]Your dream is powerfully vivid.
You're hurt, badly. So is the dwarf; this him is called Bronzethunder. He assures you it sounds better his his language.

There is a hissing. One of the snake people. You gut him.
Bronze...thunder... stupid.. name... you hear yourself say.

There's a crunching sound. The dwarf dropped another one from the other side.
Sounds better 'n me own tongue....

There is a deep cracking sound, the tunnel lurches.

They're really going to leave, you realize. Three more snake men rise up. They die fast, but you're making too much noise. More will come.

The council?

****'n cowards... Turning tail...

If they stay.... your legs are like lead now. Walking is hard. Standing is hard. Your blood feels thick with the poision

S'not the point....

A crack of lightning engulfs you. Their casters have found you. The dwarf... Thunderbottom? staggers. "Stand firm" you manage to gasp out.

The dwarf straightens, Stand... firm... yerself... pansy...
He's running on pride now, it won't be long.

He brings down his oversized mallet. The deafening wave of thunder drives them back, and brings down the ceiling.
And cuts off your exit.

You're leaning on your sword now. Well, you'll have a nice rest... wherever it is you're going.

**** that. **** them. I'll be back.

But, you heard them.... there won't be any dwarfs left...

... come back as goblin.

You feel youself laughing at the thought. Or trying to. Something important feels like it comes loose in your chest.

the least... could manage... as an elf.... There's a lot of blood in your mouth.

God's canna be so cruel...

The ground is very supportive beneath you. You feel yourself slipping. Nearby the dwarf is yelling again.

... yah pointy eared pansy....

***********************
Eldan wakes up with a start. He's lying on the thin mat in the living room of the little cottage his family lives in. Where he's been sleeping while Jeillia and her mother are in his room.

He feels a powerful pulling in his chest. It's like there's a rope attached to his heart and it's being pulled.

Outside the house... Eldan groggily thinks to himself.

Not sure where how silent starts up. I'm thinking that the waking up during the fall should happen "off screen"; or maybe in a post that's mixed with other times that he's fallen in the past?

He could either explore the town as an option, or meet with another character.

OK. So, touch quite. I have tremendous faith in Hewligan's desire to continue, but maybe that's not practical.
And we've probably lost silent at this point. :(

I'm open for suggestions about how to continue...

No, I'm still here. No one else has really been posting either so I don't feel too bad. I'm sure most of us have been busy absorbing the 4e ruleset. I know that's what I've been spending my D&D time allotment on. I'm still planning on participating. Give me a day or two. What about everyone else?

I'm still here. Insanely busy with the end of the school year and moving prep, but still here and interested. Sadly, I can't even use 4E as an excuse, as I haven't gotten my books yet. I am working on setting up my own campaign, however. I'm ready to get this thing going, but I think we need another player or two...

OK. Cool.

Obviously new players would be good.

Before that though I wanted to ask about "how" we're playing.
I have to admit that I have a lot of stuff cued up at this point, enough to make the game "more standard" (i.e. participation by the players could be more limited/passive).

So, you know, it's more of a "you go where the DM points and play the adventures the DM sets up".
Would that be more attractive to people?

I'm thinking that this is a "noble experiement" but with D'A and now hew dropping out that there's something about it that pushes people toward burnout.

(@redclaw.... I am working on the LichQueen character... really!)

As I said in the other thread, I'm interested in playing, but am happy to have this switch over to a more traditional approach. I'm already DMing several games, so I'm fine with just being a player here. :D
