4e Heroic Souls (FULL/CLOSED - accepting alts)

Atan,

Good of you to read it. It's a bit tough to follow.

Don't worry too much about party roles. A ranger is a very useful class to have around; the game is going to involve no small amount of traveling around the wilderness.
silentouch's character will be a rogue (probably)
redclaw will be a warlord.

Of course, paladins are great too. But I wouldn't feel like you -have- to switch. I actually anticipated the group not having a defender and have prepared for it.

Honestly I'd prefer to have related to Eldan's clan, and the result of one of his grandfather's trysts; I see that as being more rich in terms of story. You'd have a connection to another PC as opposed to a "NPC nobody knows about who disappeared twenty years ago"; it would re-enforce the fact that there's no contact with the outside world.

Also:
NPCs who appear and disappear in town, or can break into and out of the daze, would probably be -fairly- powerful and/or special. Insofar as it's possible I'd like those sorts of people to be rare.

Specifically:

Could it be that external meddlings influenced the "fate" and made change actually possible (and one of these would be heian being an hero's son in this incarnation)?
I'm -fairly- sure that there aren't any heroes who are currently active. (curretly = within the last 100 years; i.e. the current period)
It keeps the PCs special and interesting, and the focus of the story on them.
(There may be one or two heroic souls who have turned up before, but they won't be heroes-like-the-PCs-are-heroes).

I don't know if it could work in your "eternal circle" mechanic.
The eternal circle mechanic isn't meant to be binding.
It should become more clear when the game begins but "before" (i.e. the period of time that lasted from thoudands of years ago up to 100 years ago) the heroic souls were trapped in certain patterns (and some were more trapped than others). In return the people inhabited by the soul (possessed, in a sense, by it) were very powerful (minimum-paragon tier, frequently epic)

This game revolves around the re-appearance of heroic souls after a long period of absence. They're weaker (you'll be starting at 1st level) and their control over their "host" (i.e. the eternal circle) is also much weaker.

Your heroic soul -can- have been traditionally always been the child of another heroic soul. That would be an interesting motif.
(i.e. you're always usually the child of another heroic soul whenever you incarnate).
Again, your current incarnation doesn't seem to have followed that pattern, but that could be a reflection of any number of things such as
1. Meddling by some force (as you suggested)
2. The weakness of the "eternal circle"
3. Your character fulfilling other important criteria (i.e. if your your heroic soul and Neeloo's are linked AND Neeloo is reappearing then that could pull your soul back to the world, even if it doesn't usually do so)

Sorry if this was a bit long/hard to understand. If stuff's unclear just come back to me and we'll iterate our way until we get to agreement.

All clear and all good. The option I like better is number 3 (link with neeloo) since I and sarah discussed about the two characters' relationship already; also, I think I'll take Paladin without problem since it depicts better a overprotectiveness that i wanted to characterize Heian with (in regards of neeloo in particular, but later with his companions too). Tell us how we can get started and i'll share some ideas as soon as i can! ok? ^ I'm eager to start as this really looks interesting

I chose furious smash for the hal-elf's dilettante power because i have a +4 cha modifier, so it's significant even though it's 1/encounter. Any suggestion for alternatives?
On the other hand, i chose piercing smite to take advantage of holy strike and enfeebling strike at-will that target marked enemies. 'm not sure if it's worth it, but I will retrain if it doesn't work.
That makes a lot of sense, and I'm sure the strikers will enjoy the bonus. :D
As to Piercing Smite, I'm not sure what you mean by the two at-wills targeting marked enemies. As I read it, with either one you target one creature, and if he happens to be marked you get a bonus. Piercing Smite lets you mark several creatures, but you can only target one of them with the strikes.

slipped into the woods is good for me. there is so much to know about this village I got a bit confused at first (probably still am)
Good.

We'll stick with that then.

I'm thinking that we'll have a short intro scene and then people will awaken (i.e. become first level) fairly quickly.
Are you comfortable making a character now? (have the books & time to look over them?)

What I meant is that as and added benefit to marking 3 enemies, all three are then eligible targets for the at-will. Uhm. Maybe I'm overestimating the tactical advantage of this...i'll think about it.

sweet. I'll make my character sheet tomorow and I'll be ready to play. I got my books right beside me and pretty much memorized most of it (I'm a rule book myself)

I did'n include deity, languages(except common) and equipment since i guess we can't really have the stuff yet (we don't really have class levels yet, no?).
You -don't- have class levels initially.
But, honestly, I'm very tempted to just get you guys 1st level and gaming quickly. The storytelling stuff is very enjoyable, but it seems to be a bit too much work. We'll probably do a few posts, but you'll be 1st level relatively quickly.

Specifically: There are no deities. They've been forgotten.
languages: right now you only have common. Once you've leveled up you'll magically "know" a second language.
Equipment: Hm. I hadn't given this too much thought. Let me think some more.

I just included weapons and armor to show what the effective in-game statistics would be.
That's a fine way to do it. My inclination is that you'll probably start off with gear quickly (just because I'm not sure how to "balance" the game properly without it).

OK. We'll foreground that aspect of it.

I will make IC posts for everyone soon.

It's going to be a bit "railroady". Honestly, I don't love starting games this way (i.e. NPC shows up and sort of "starts" the adventure).
But this game has started and stopped a few times so I think it's safest to "push" a bit.

Everyone has a post up now.

The posts should, as always, be considered first drafts, so if you don't like something; or have a better idea, just let me know!

You can post as much or as little as you want. I will try to do more of a "pull" this time around. So if you just want me to continue to advance the story. Just post a sentence or two reaction type shot. (ex: Eldan tries to resist the daze) and I'll just keep "pulling" the story along until we get to the game space.

I think that I can "move" the story into gaming territory (i.e. everyone being 1st level and having items) within two cycles or so.

(I'm breaking it up partially because it's a lot of typing, and partially to give people, especially the new folks, a chance to develop their characters a bit).
