it's always weird to play when your character can't see anything but the player can. I know technically, I could attack Valendra (she'd within reach) but it seems unsafe to attack while my ally is grappling her - besides, how do I target the right person in the dark???

Yeah, I was describing the scene to my wife this morning - flailing about with a polearm might have a good chance of hitting someone, but really, in a crowd in the dark, while your target is being carried or dragged? Seems tricky.

This is where, as a DM, I'd be really tempted to pull out the old percentile dice should the PC decide to attack....

It’s hard to know if you’re serious. The min/maxer in me wanted to attack. Story-wise, even if Urgan is letting Merrick know where she is, it’s not like he’s wielding a precision weapon.

Use your free hand next round to cast light. Then we are in business.

DO NOT turn the light on. You just stay where you are, Urgan and Torhak have great advantage now, kobolds can retreat, you lot take cover and until someone makes the light, we're making a killing.
