Finnean moves around the swarm, deciding to try to end the threat of the rats as quickly as possible. He slips by the rats towards the door, and then impales a bunch of them. He continues to stab at them, paying little mind to his own defense, but the thinned out group is harder to catch.

OOC: The rat swarm should be at 10 hit points. Hopefully someone should be able to finish it off soon. If Ironheart wants to charge, he can always move away and take the OA. Since you are within 5 squares of Finnean, you'll get +2 to your defenses against OAs due to his aura.

As the rats scrabble at him, drawing blood, Ironheart backs away a few feet in order to get room to charge. A fey light gleams in his eyes as, like a battering ram, he thunders toward the tiny annoyances. He lets out a bestial roar as he swings his giant axe overhand to bring it crashing down on them.

And misses.

Ironheart stares stupefied at the vermin which persist in existing, blood streaming from a hundred pinprick wounds, swaying dangerously back and forth.

Good idea, I will do that!

Start of turn: Take 3 ongoing damage
Start of turn: Rats attack: Aura attack on Ironheart (1d20+10=27, 1d6+3=6) Hit for 6, and 3 ongoing (does not stack)
Start of turn: Font of Life: Font of Life (save vs ongoing) (1d20+2=20) Saved.
Free: Nature's Wrath (mark rats until end of my next turn)
Move: to H6, triggering an OA from the rats: OA on Ironheart (1d20+10=20, 1d6+3=8) That's a hit even with the +2, for 8 more damage and 3 more ongoing.

I've now taken 17 damage this turn. Down to 11 hp.

Minor: Wood Woad Resolve: Heal 4 damage, gain 4 thp, and make a save vs the ongoing damage: Wood Woad Resolve (save vs ongoing) (1d20+2=20) Saved again.

Standard: Charge to H8: Charge at Rat Swarm (Hit: +1 from Charge, +2 from Form of the Fearsome Ram, +2 from CA, +1 from Vanguard Weapon, +1 from Charge With Brave Warriors; damage +4 from Maw of the Guardian, +5 from Vanguard Weapon) (1d20+9+1+2+2+1+1=19, 1d10+6+4+5=21)

Miss. I needed a 4. And I missed. With a 3.

Note that I wasted two 18's on my saving throws this turn, as well.

*From the silent shadows of the other room Cyrus darts out at lightning quick strides. He charges into the fray of the mass of rats. His blade in a sweeping arc sends all the rats flying. Scattering them across the room, dispersing the swarm. Cyrus rights himself and looks around at the others. He narrows his eyes wondering what was taking them so all to do what he just did to himself. He them turns and looks to the door leading down, then to the door leading up. Curious as to where the enemy will strike next.*

Hmmm....something calls for aid in the lower realms of this tower, though it can wait if it is a trapped person. We do know there are more goblins in the upper tower still.

Jesse ducks behind his party. In the midst of his allies, he sees a squirming goblin trying to hack at his leader. Promptly, he mutters an arcane word and the goblin spontaneously erupts into flames. It shrieks and cries weakens from a startling crescendo of squeals and soon its voice died down. (Auto-HIT)

Seeing the last goblin fall, Ixenvalignat focuses his attention on the rats, "Fear not my verdant friend! I'm right beside you!" Bounding across the antechamber, the dragonborn skids to a halt amid the skittering pests, dragging his broadsword in an arc along the floor that slices through almost half of the vermin, "Hoho! You weren't expecting that, now were you, you supple-skinned squeakers!?" Ixenvalignat brings his blade down again in a follow-up move, but the rats are not so easily surprised this time. His blade falls on the pavers, with a clang, spilling no blood, "Alright, my friends," he calls out to the others, "It's up to you to finish this job!" (HIT; AP – MISS)

GM: Darksteed: Ironheart was at H8, so I put Cyrus at G8. No flanking, but your attack would have hit anyways.

Although echoes can be heard from above, nothing seems to be coming down the stairs to assault you.
GM: The encounter continues…

OOC: I'm fine with a short rest. I think we should go up as we know that there are enemies up there to deal with.

OOC: I'll be away this weekend and most likely will not have time to post.

OOC: Jesse spends one healing surge. He also votes to go up to deal with the archers there lest they pester us in mid-battle later

GM: So short rest. That will end the encounter.

No monsters appear coming down the staircase (or up for that matter).

It's your move, up or down.

OOC: Voted up: Finnean, Jesse, Cyrus.
Pending: Ixenvalignat, Ironheart
I would like to hear your opinion(s), however, if there is a good reason to go down
