Would've had to be mage hand, actually, since that's what I have on my spell list. But yeah... Too bad I can't just grab the bird ("unattended, nonmagical object"). Here's what I do, presuming no one else has any method of giving chase. There's also some buying/selling I want to do, but I'll hold that off until later. Doing a bardic knowledge (+5) check to see if I know anything about the order of St. Feragon, also.
Velbrik says, "What was your name? Kirin, said the halfling? That was a dangerous decision you made. Despite my words, I never had any intention of letting Troi die - I was merely bluffing for a better position. Hence, why I agreed to the druid's terms at the end. I did hope, however, that I would've had a chance to betray him, but I had a feeling he'd be too smart to allow an opportunity."
He looks at Troi and gives him a brief summary of what happened while he was unconcious. His voice is steady, smooth, and urbane, possessing even a bit of a musical flair to it.
Velbrik turns to the others. "Well, perhaps this engagement did not go quite as well as hoped, but we're all alive and shall soon be no worse for wear. I am Velbrik, bard and historian of the College of Nobius," he says, bowing with a caped flourish. "My colleagues and I did in fact successfully track down the wizard Delmon. We entered his room to discover he'd been knocked unconscious, into a death-like stupor, guarded by a fire elemental. Thale here," he says, nodding to Thale, "Thale healed him, of course. He sent us on our way with thanks and a set of magical steeds, which was how we managed to reach the monastery at what looks to have been roughly the same time you fellows did. Troi is keeping a journal, I believe, and if you'd like a better accounting than I, I'm sure he'd be happy to relate our tale. Did you find anything particularly unusual in your journey to and through the monastery - a bit of knowledge or lore that may help us in fighting these minions of Kroggoth, perhaps?"
"It's too bad that the creature escaped. No tracks, either, but he hopefully will be not too far out of the grasp of magic, eh? First, though, we ought to ransack the monastery for surviving monks - those were the two others who came in with you, yes?" he asks, glancing at their fallen forms. "Are any of you familiar with the religion of St. Feragon? We ought to provide proper funeral rites for them. And I consider, perhaps, that he may allow us to...ah, utilize the monastery as a headquarters of sorts, as we pursue the feral menace, though it may be the Red Dragon Inn will serve just as well for that purpose."
He looks over to the halfling. "Ah, you speak Draconic. How excellent to meet another scholar. But you are a knight of some sort, correct? Is Draconic the usual training among your order? I would be interested in learning about this, for the only order of knight-scholars I can think of immediately would be the Ai-Ashre, and you are quite clearly not one of those esteemed individuals. And, if I may say, you used such an odd battlecry as well."
