Adventure: Get Me to the Church on Time (DM: BenBrown, Judge: Renau1g)

Zardi quickly slices two fingers off of the hobgoblin boss, and offers one to Tyris as a souvenir. He puts the other in his belt pack, looks around and asks "Wasn't there one more?" referring to the grunt that fled up the stairs earlier.

Zardi quickly slices two fingers off of the hobgoblin boss, and offers one to Tyris as a souvenir. He puts the other in his belt pack, looks around and asks "Wasn't there one more?" referring to the grunt that fled up the stairs earlier.

Tyris looks at the grisly trophy then peers at Zardi. Then he shrugs and accepts the finger, stowing it in a side pocket in his pack. He nods in response to Zardi's question and points toward the stairs.

Goldenhorn goes up the stairs quickly to see whether the other hobgoblin has fled or is still hanging around. "The ones that pursued Ismene's party may return soon as well," he says.

As Goldenhorn mounts the stairs, he hears a thump, and then a scraping sound, followed by a grunt and a heavy thud. This (and everyone can hear this) leads into the sound of running footsteps away from the back side of the structure, and the heavy breathing of someone in a panic.
Then comes the "thwip" sound of an arrow, a strangled cry.

"That's one more. Good work, Dirk." Ismene's voice is heard.
"Come on, Handsome, let's see how your friends are doing."

"It appears that Ismene has returned," Goldenhorn calls down to the others. "Goldenhorn coming out!" he bellows, as a warning to Ismene not to shoot his head off. He climbs up through the trapdoor and onto the tower roof. "You enemy Ruthak is dead," he announces. "Perhaps you wish to see for yourself, although I fear that he makes for even less attractive viewing than usual. Someone has been choking him."

"Tell I an I 'ow dey doin out dere," Spider said, calling up to Goldenhorn while looking around the room for anything of value.

Lord Mallaby toddles up the path, surrounded by Ismene, Thais, and Carlotta, all apparently entranced by his boyish charms.

"Well met, Goldenhorn," he shouts. "I trust that this lady's enemies will trouble her no more?"

"I think Dirk got the last one," Ismene says. "If Ruthak's down, the rest will fold quickly, if they're not down already. Let's go in and take a look."

Taking her hand, Mallaby escorts the bandit queen up to the door. The other ladies follow them into the structure.

"Your friend was right," Ismene says to Mallaby upon seeing Ruthak's corpse. "He does look worse than before."

Meanwhile, Spider and Tyris are searching the place. The hobgoblins don't have much, but Tyris manages to scrounge a small bag of gold, as well as, surprisingly, a couple of small bound books. Downstairs, in the barred-off area, Spider finds a suit of leather armor in surprisingly good condition, which was apparently being used as a chew-toy by the dogs.

"Aside from the dog slobber, it's in good shape," Ismene observes. "Guess it didn't fit any of them."

Thais cocks her head to the side and looks at the armor.

"There's an enchantment on it," she says. "They must not have noticed."[sblock=goodies]The armor is Skald's Leather Armor +1
The books are not magical, but may have some other value.[/sblock]

Tyris finishes searching the upper floor and goes back down the stairs to join the others. As he begins to display the books he found, his eye catches on the armor being inspected by the rest of the group. He moves over to inspect it, then looking around at the others, points to the armor, then to himself, and slowly reaches out to pick it up. Almost as an afterthought, he produces the books again and shows them to his allies.

"Ya tink I an I gonna trade ya dis fine armor fo dem doosty ol' books? Issa ya bumbaclot!?" Spider said in outrage.

He faked an angry look for a few tense seconds, then burst into laughter. "I an I jus tri'in ta get a rise outta ya."

"So, Ismene, can I an I trava safe tchrough ya lans now?"
