[Adventure] The Mine-Militia Identity. (DM: horticulture; Judge: covaithe)

OOC: Most of the mount rules are in the DMG, as far as I can tell.

The dragon, hearing Sharpe's compelling argument about eating bugbears, quiets down and, with a quizzical look upon its reptilian face, cautiously takes a step away from the group.

"You have slaughtered my minions and have gravely injured me. What proof have you that I shall be safe from further harm?"

[sblock=Skill Challenge]How to Subdue Your Dragon!
I'm going to use [MENTION=60965]Iron Sky's[/MENTION] outstanding skill challenge rules because I like them a lot. Like, almost love them. It's kinda creepy, actually.
[sblock=Rules]Each character will roll a skill check once per round using a skill that you deem pertinent and compare their result to the Individual Skill Roll table to see what effect their roll has on the group's success that round and what effect it will have on their roll next round.

Once everyone has rolled, the group will have a group total that they compare to the Round Totals table that earns them Victory Points and applies cumulative bonuses or penalties to everyone's checks in future rounds. At the end of the set number of rounds, the PCs compare their Victory Point total to the Victory Point Totals table that will determine the end result of the skill challenge - how well they succeeded at the objective.

Repeating Skills
Repeating a skill two or more rounds in a row results in a cumulative -2 penalty to the skill roll.

Action Points
Action Points may be spent to roll an additional skill roll for the round. It must be different from the skill already used.

Aid Another
PCs may take -3 on a roll before their check to grant an ally a reroll this round; they may also take a -5 to their result to grant an ally a reroll this round.

Heroic Effort
A PC may decide to expend a healing surge to gain +3 to a check before it is rolled or to apply +1 to a check after it is rolled, or do both for two surges.[/sblock]Rounds: 3

Individuals' Skill Rolls
12-: 0 points, -2 on next round's skill check
13-17: 1 point, -1 on next round's skill check
18-22: 2 points, +1 on next round's skill check
23+: 3 points, +2 on next round's skill check
Natural 1: -1 point, lose a healing surge
Natural 20: +1 point, gain a healing surge

Round Totals
0-4 points: 0 Victory Points and Disaster: -2 cumulative penalty to all future skill checks
5-9 points: 1 Victory Points and Complication: -1 cumulative penalty to all future skill checks
10-14 points: 2 Victory Points and Advantage: +1 cumulative bonus to all future skill checks
15+ points: 3 Victory Points and Miracle: +2 cumulative bonus to all future skill checks

Final Victory Points
0-2 total points: Disaster, appropriate consequences
3-5 total points: Complication, appropriate result and consequence
6-8 total points: Advantage, appropriate result and benefit
9+ total points: Miracle, appropriate benefits[/sblock]

"I'm not sure about this Sharpe... Do you know what the going rate for White Dragon scales is on the market these days? They'll pay extra if the dragon was young enough that the scales are still supple. He's just a pup, he can't be that impressive."

Prime looked he was about to do something, but he must have changed his mechanical mind when a couple gears fall from his shoulder. Prime hurriedly picks them up and tries to put them back in place.

OOC: Oops. That's -1 HS, I think.

OOC: How does that reroll thing work, anyway? Do we have to announce it before?

Edit: Looks like the question is actually relevant, too...

GM: I'm going to rule that you can do before or after your roll. However, I'm going to alter the Rerolling Rule as follows: If you state that you're using Aid Another before your roll, it's a -3 to your roll; if you've rolled already and decide, after seeing someone need a reroll, that you want to aid them, it's a -5 to your result.

OOC: I'll take the hit for a reroll for Prime. Bringing myself down to 20. I can post some IC stuff justifying it tomorrow. Posting from my phone.

OOC: Looks like Sharpe will need the mounted combat feat. :D

Veserab looks perfect for a dragon, though it is level 6 and might have to be re-flavored as it is more like a black dragon. The dragon could be half-black dragon or be changed by a magical event, or something. I suppose it could be scaled down in level as well, that might need a proposal.

Veserab Level 6 Lurker
Large shadow beast (mount) XP 250
HP 60; Bloodied 30
AC 20; Fortitude 20; Reflex 17; Will 17
Speed 4, fly 8
Immune noxious breath
Initiative +11
Perception +11
Blindsight 20

Traits
Combat Advantage
The veserab deals an extra 1d6 damage on melee attacks against any target it has combat advantage against.

Standard Actions
m Bite • At-Will
Attack: +11 vs. AC
Hit: 2d6 + 5 damage.

m Wing Claw • At-Will
Attack: +11 vs. AC
Hit: 1d6 + 5 damage.

C Noxious Breath (poison, zone) • Encounter
Attack: Close blast 4; +9 vs. Fortitude
Hit: 2d6 + 3 poison damage, and the target takes a -2 penalty to all defenses until the end of the veserab's next turn. This power creates a zone of black, noxious fumes that remains in place until the end of the encounter. This zone blocks line of sight, and a creature that enters or ends its turn in the zone takes 5 poison damage. Veserabs are immune to this power's effects.

M Diving Wing Rake • Standard, At-Will
Effect: The veserab's makes a charge attack, making two wing claw attacks. After attacking, the veserab moves up to 1 square and moves in an unoccupied square.

Other Powers
Dark Wings • At-Will
Effect: When mounted by a friendly rider of 6th level or higher, the veserab grants its rider gains resist 5 poison and is immune to the effects of any veserab's noxious breath.

Skills Stealth +12
Str 20 (+8) Dex 18 (+7) Wis 17 (+6)
Con 17 (+6) Int 2 (–1) Cha 4 (+0)
Alignment unaligned Languages —
Monster found in Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide and Compendium

OOC: Why not just use Boar and reflavor basic attacks :D Vow, crazy bard will get a dragon. Unfortunately, this kind of skill challenge really isn't for Drew. Normal skill challenge, I'd roll history and aid, but now...hm...maybe draconic speech and knowledge allows some bonuses?

Drew relaxes as it becomes obvious they won't have to kill the baby. He bows again in front of it and speaks in that same language as before, trying to gauge it's motivation and what might persuade it to join them fully and willingly.
[sblock=Draconic]
"Noble one, though young you show wisdom of your race. But think of this. You ask for proof. And yet, we stayed our hand when you could be dead already. Ally with this human, you might discover he's not like most of us. He's...ambitious. Just be careful, as he's quite crazy, even for human.

As for guarantees..."
[/sblock]

Drew opens his robe displaying gold and black dragon locked in combat over his chest.
[sblock=Draconic]
"These are Alessirae and Rosstok'harr, called" [/sblock]

"Goldleaf i Gloomscale"
[sblock=Draconic]"by humans. As a heir of the Temple of the Dragon, I give you my word you won't be harmed by us, as long as you're allied with us or until we part ways.

What say you?"
[/sblock]

OOC: 18-22: 2 points, +1 on next round's skill check - if you decide the above is better served by history, it's 2 points less, but still in the same range.
