By the book, you cannot Raise or Ressurect anyone against their will. And while the subject doesn't get to have an extended conversation with the spellcaster, they know what's going on, and who is doing it.

What good aligned person is going to willingly put themselves in the hands of a follower of an evil deity? Especially while in a weakened state - no spells or equipemnt or other party members. If any of them are dim enough to accept that, they deserve what they get.

Revivification against One’s Will: A soul cannot be returned to life if it does not wish to be. A soul knows the name, alignment, and patron deity (if any) of the character attempting to revive it and may refuse to return on that basis.

Reasons for a good character to accept a raise from an evil cleric:

You may be used in an enemy of our enemy kind of thing. Unless you have a no dealing with them under any circumstances church policy I don't see a problem here.

Your friends may have hired the cleric to bring you back.

Your church may have negotiated your restoration from the evil church while your body was in the hands of the evil church.

Oh come on, you know it would be sexy cool to be a vampire, come back and join the dark side son, it'll be a hoot. Course they could just turn your corpse directly into an undead and save themselves the raise dead xp.

Yeah, anyone who accepts that resurrection deserves the reward for their stupidity, but I wouldn't call it an alignment transgression.

They don't know what's going on.

"What's going on" is that an evil deity is providing the power to raise them. That they do know, according to the SRD and the rulebooks. They don't know the detailed plans for them after the raise is accomplished, no. But the asics are enough for an intelligent decision.

By your own "They don't know what's going on" line, they cannot tell for sure that's what is up. Sure, they may be used for that. But they may also be in for a lifetime of torture just because. Why on whatever planet would a soul take that risk?

Again, the soul doesn't know that. And if one's friends are stupid enough to hire an evil cleric or the cleric of an evil god to bring you back, such that you're likely to refuse, do you really want to continue hanging around with them in life?

Yes, maybe they did, but as you say, you don't know that. Plus, if the evil church is willing to have you brought back, but they are not willing to allow your body (or parts thereof) released so it could be done by good guys, it is safe to assume the evil guys have an ulterior motive. For some reason, they want their hands on you before your own people get you. That's not a good sign.

So, still seems pretty dumb, especially given the lack of full information the soul has.

There's no way it would be an alignment transgression for those being raised. Of course, as many here have pointed out, it could be foolish to accept. There's likely a reason. But it's not *wrong* to accept do it. Just potentially dangerous.
