Always hit Bard build

OK so i'm reading this stuff about Magic Missle being changed to "Always hit"(hit miss and damage being debated gramatically in the other thread) and i was thinking that there are a set of feats that turned the bards dillatante power from an encounter,to an at will to a basic attack.

Can't remember what the feats are called exactly, something like expert dillatane.

Anyway If MM is a basic attack it can be used for powers that have the ranged keyword, effectively making them always hit powers.

That seems a little broken IMHO, but can it work?

You talking about the half-elf feat that means their dillentane from another class (an at-will made into an encounter at level 1) becomes an actual At-Will?

From what I can recall, that feat is paragon level.

Nope. Magic missile cannot be used for any ranged powers. It's its own power. The fact that it is a ranged basic attack means that it can be used with abilities that grant ranged basic attacks, though, and if you had the right leader in your party you could probably build an interesting "lots of automatic damage" character. I think it would have to rely on an awful lot of synergy, though- if your leader died or left the group, you might be half-useless.

Warlord and Wizard are BFF's with the auto-hit of magic missile. When the Warlord is out of encounter spells, he will probably always grant it to the wizard unless there is a rogue currently flanking.

I tried to use auto-hit magic missile on my half-elf bard. It takes the 11th level feat turning the power into an at will. Then you either get a feat at 10th level, or you take the paragon path "Student of the Seven" in order to get Wizard's fury. I'm just not sure it is worth it for my bard at 11th level to do what a wizard can do at 1st level.

Of course, if you are taking the half-elf feats to substitute charisma for attack and/or damage on your multi-class and dilettante powers anyway... well magic missile makes a pretty strong case for itself.

Actually, mm makes always a good dilletante power for any half elven character, even one with low int. even 1 damage against a minion sounds like "enough" to make it worth taking ;)

Compared with scorching burst? Or cloud of knives?

The new MM is interesting, but I don't think it's actually good...

Auto-hitting is overrated. A decent build and decent tactics will make sure you hit 70%-80% of the time with any at-will (unless your DM always throws monsters of level +2 and higher at you). The auto-hit simply doesn't make up for the much lower damage, especially at Paragon and higher levels.

As for minion killing, your blast and area at-will powers are much more effective for this, as you can take down more than one minion per round instead of just one.

Magic Missile is maybe worth it as a human wizard as 3rd at will, or if you have a Warlord specialized on granting ranged basic attacks, but for everyone else, just skip it. (Both old and new version)
