Victoria Rules
It's discussions like these that led us to, a long time ago, convert Druids over to Nature Clerics. They kept most of the Druid spell list, picked up the Cleric casting and prayer mechanics, and (usually) had to worship a deity in order to function and get their powers.Historically, we know almost nothing about the druids. D&D druids, as well as other fantasy games, have created a tradition based on the Victorian ideas of druids mixed in with modern ecological concerns for the wilderness. As such, elves are a great choice to embrace druidic practices.
As a side note, if we could somehow fully comprehend what the druids practiced, as modern people, we'd robably still want to stick with our made up ones.![]()
There's no shortage of nature-based deities out there, be they from actual history, fantasy writings/examples, or a combination of both.
Elves, being close to the woods, and Hobbits, being close to the land, are the races most suited to supporting Nature Clerics. Humans - well, they're flexible, they'll support anything. Gnomes and are a bit of a stretch, and Dwarves are definitely out. Part-Elves are also well-suited, while Part-Orcs not so much.
