I guess we will see:

Lawful Good
Lawful
Lawful Evil
Chaotic Good
Chaotic
Chaotic Evil
Good
Evil
Unaligned
This I agree with.

Basically neutral gets just renamed into unaligned.
This I don't. The whole concept of "Neutrality" has been removed. Which, IMO, is a good thing. It was always a stupid concept anyway. You can't be "neutral" as to anything. That's what rocks and other inanimate objects are. If you're alive (and have any motives at all) you have to be for something.

I think that in practice characters who are Good, Evil, Lawful or Chaotic will be played similarly to how people played NG, NE, CN and LN, but by removing the whole concept of Neutrality you make the idea less confusing. I especially think the "Unaligned" concept is a good advance. Alignment should be something you can opt out of. "Good, bad ... I'm the guy with the gun."

I've always thought that the concept of seeking balance was far better mapped to Good. Bad stuff happens when things are out of balance, and wanting bad stuff to happen is Evil. It's only because of the desire to fit things into a symmetrical framework that it got mapped to Neutral. Hopefully, since they're getting rid of unnecessary symmetry, this will also change in 4E.

Then what is "Unaligned" in this context, if not "Neutral?"

Seeing as how alignment is flavor now anyway, in my game it'll be good, evil and unaligned, regardless.

In my game it will be all unaligned. The removal of alignment as a mechanic makes me happier than anything we've seen so far.
