I use it for large area maps.
The progran is pretty good, but there are a lot of features that I never use (like the quick linking of maps), even allowing for that however I felt it well worth the price. Plus it can export to BMP which means my word processer can import the maps.
The newest version adds shading, which can make for a much more dynamic map. A decent sized symbol gallery, and the Fractal World Explorer was nifty, though I have only used it a couple of times when I ran a Star Wars game for a birthday party.
I had some problems with imported maps from the previous version, but the folks at NBos replied very quickly. (Not in time mind you, I had already replaced the flawed text, but within 24 hours. The only way they could have been in time is if they had been on instant messenger at 3 AM.)
But then again I use three mapping programs (Dungeon Crafter, Map X, and Fractal Mapper ) so I may just be an addict to mapping programs. (I have one running right now actually...)
