Anyone remember "The Lone Gunmen"?

A few years back, in the last 2-3 seasons of the X-Files, Chris Carter created a spinoff (for those of you that don't remember...) called The Lone Gunmen.

Does anyone have any info on that show, and why it went off (besides their death in that one episode of the last season)?

Oldest story in TV history: Low ratings. Show was OK, but not great. I did like that it did a good job distancing itself from the X-Files, a job that took Angel a season or two to do vs. Buffy. It was kind of nice to see TV heroes who were total geeks and looked the part as opposed to All-American He-Man types.

BTW, that X-Files episode made me madder than any episode ever. They did not deserve to die, heroically or otherwise. And I'm even madder now that there's talk of another X-Files movie, and no chance of a Lone Gunmen cameo.

I really dug that show, especially the character "Jimmy Bond." I thought it had promise. Damn shame that Fox didn't give it shot. Harsh Realm was cancelled about the same time as well which really pissed me off because I loved that show. Fox is not high on my list of networks. If they didn't have football I don't know if I would watch it at all...

And don't even get me started on Firefly.

Anywho, I can't believe they didn't give their X-FILES (ya know, the show that gave them their first solid drama) spinoff a better chance. *sigh*

There's always the chance of a cameo. In a mythology that has shape-changing aliens, and gods only knows what sort of alien technology, anyone can show up, at any time.

Heck, the simple expedient of a flashback could bring you your desired cameo :)

Incidentally, they're starting the show tomorrow on one of the Finnish channels. While I was never a fan of X-Files, I'm looking forward to it.

If the Lone Gunmen can appear in the last episode of the X-Files after they've all died, they can appear again in a movie. Easy as that. They probably won't, but they could.

One question for any X-Philes here, that burned and scarred Jeffry Spender that we saw in the last season, was that the same actor as the person who played Jeffry Spender before?

Yeah, I thought it was a good show. My favorite episode was the one with the super-intelligent chimp, "Peanuts," AKA "Admiral Peanuts," AKA "Simon Whitethatch Potentloins." :)

I do remember thinking, shortly after 9-11, that they'll probably never show the pilot episode on US TV ever again, especially when the plotline involved a forced airliner crash into the Twin Towers for devious reasons. Ended up being rather prophetic, didn't it? Of course, the bad guys in this case weren't terrorists, merely military contractors (if I remember correctly), but it was a rather eerie foreshadowing of real-life events in any case.

I really enjoyed the Lone Gunmen. It was a very stylish, fun show. The addition of strong supporting characters - both Jimmy Bond and the "mystery woman" (played by one of the most beautiful women I've seen on TV) - helped bolster the show and keep it from becoming a paranoid Three Stooges. I wasn't surprised when it was cancelled, but I was very disappointed. This is a show SciFi should have continued, given their new policy of more thriller-type programming.

I figure the Gunmen could still be alive, anyway. I've seen characters survive tighter spots.

They died heroically and received a heroes burial. Not a bad spin off and the supporting characters were definitely just as interesting as the main three. :)
