D&D (2024) Are single class martials still going to be viable in 2024?

Ok yeah fun > all, but what if someone finds it fun to play a powerful character?
(this is most people, in my experience)

I understand that many people min max, but I've never really experienced that in over forty years. The people I play with have an idea, and they play that. I get others have different experiences...

Doesn't sound like you do, making quotes about how "comparison if the thief of joy".
There's no wrong way to enjoy DnD, and for many people, optimizing their character is what makes the game fun. You only get to play DnD for what, a few hours a week max if schedules hold? There's no limit to how much time you can spend thinking about optimizing new character builds!

"Powerful" can only be defined by comparison.
If your dealing 5 damage, and everyone else is dealing 1, then your powerful.
If your dealing 5 damage and everyone else is dealing 10, you are not.
As such. Rolling a 1 and still dealing 3 makes you feel powerful. (As long as you don't also have a Dualist).

How often you play and how fast you level could make a pretty big difference. If I know i'll be level 10 in 3 months I'd be more prone to multiclass than it taking 18 months.

I play a lot of 1-20 campaigns and they don't last 10 months .... so maybe this is it.
