Could also be running AL or something similar filled with short/one shot type games. In fact that seems more likelyAround 30.
edit: I stand corrected, it's the played ten 1-20 5e campaigns poster.

You're not Chris Cocks, by any chance?I am playing in 5 different games right now.
That's also true of the 2014 rules, so that isn't driving the change in dips.Magic initiate can grab you the shield spell. No sorcerer multiclass needed.

(and you can get Magic initiate at level 1 now)Not really. 2014 Magic initiate didn’t let you use cleric slots to cast it. 2024 does.
Wouldn't Paladin make just as much or more sense?I just created a Sorc for a one-shot with a 1 level Protector Cleric dip. It enabled the theme I had in mind for the PC, so seemed useful? ¯\(ツ)/¯
The only reason casters went Fighter2 rather than a single level in 2014 was for action surge, which is no longer relevant to casters in 2024. Fighter1 is still a very attractive dip for casters due to Con save proficiency, which Rangers and Paladins don't get. Rangers also don't get heavy armour. If you are a full caster losing a caster level is a big hit. I don't see fighter being very attractive at all in the new rules when Paladin or Ranger are available and give you armor proficiency and weapon mastery without losing a caster level.
I am also not seeing a lot of 1-level fighter dips on full caster, but I did not see them a lot on the old rules either. Any time someone dipped fighter in the old rules they usually went to 2 levels, but they were not nearly as common as Cleric for full casters that I saw.

Wish I had the chutzpah to do this. It's not that I dislike multiclassing itself- I just don't like how 5e handles it.I don't allow multiclassing in my game, so I couldn't really say there's been any change.
