Assault on Dragonspear (5e PBP) IC

Lionel and Tommi found the others about two miles down the Trade Way. Sir Isteval looked dubiously at the old mule, but he nodded to Tommi without complaint.

"No problem!" says Tommi enthusiastically, returning all of Sir Isteval's money. "We've just borrowed old Carl, and it would be nice to give 'im back, if we can. When we're done." He explains, "The village itself is under attack and getting ready to defend itself. There are some trolls to the south -- I think they might be on our path, so we should be careful. But I do think if we can deal with them ourselves, we should do so. It looked like they could really use some help."

Tommi rubs the sling wrapped around his wrist, and picks up some stones from the ground, just to make sure he's armed.

with a short rest, Morgan can get his Arcane Eye back and I can swap out a spell for clairvoyance. That will make it easy and quick to spy and bring information back without getting too close. Then we can decide what we want to do. Like attack the trolls ourselves or move on.

"I can scout them remotely with magic. Then we can decide if we need to deal with them ourselves. Then we can get the information back to the Captain - maybe write a message and send it back with Oh-Six. "
 

In fact, it was supper-time, nearing six hours after noon. They had, at best, an hour and a half before dusk. The rocky, lightly grassed lands south of the Way Inn made for poor farmland, and it did not have any ideal places to make camp for the night. Not here, at least. Perhaps a league or two to the south (but then, they might discover trolls as it grew dark). It seemed a shame to Lionel that they'd left such a large and friendly Inn behind, as a strong and cool breeze blew from the west.

OOC: Push on southward? That was the general plan before.

I'd like to move South, as planned (which, I guess is towards the Trolls), (I’m not worried about a “nice” place to camp) and take a 'Short rest' so I can get my 4th level slot back and swap out one of my spells. I'll swap Haste for Morgan's Secure Shelter. Once we are camped, I can send an Arcane Eye out up to 3.5 miles but it doesn't make a great scout because it can only see/hear in a 30 foot radius. We may have to send out a scouting team. Does that work for everyone???

Tommi is keen to head south. "We know where we're going, and we are aware of the major threat on the road. That means we just have one thing to worry about, right?" He is not sure if this argument will convince anyone else, but he's pretty sure it's solid.
