AtG Howling Crag (5e PBP) OOC

I'm pretty sure Laearthar is one of the stone giants that the Colonel used Banishment on in our fight in the main steading hall. I mean sure, he's still alive, but I am not sure it's a given that he'll side with us.

(he might be both? -- I will go back and check.)
Unless I'm mistaken, the quick order of events was that the Colonel banished Laerthar and Utharn while you killed the Hill Giant Chief, then you negotiated with them. Later, you ran into Utharn in the cellars and chatted with him again, and he let you leave with the dwarves without conflict.

Then you returned to find that the Fire Giant had taken charge and had the stone giants bound to posts (presumably for negotiating with you) and you killed everyone and set them free. Laerthar invited you to speak to his Thane and went home, taking all stone giants with him.

Now you have arrived, and things aren't as easy as perhaps either of you had expected.

Thank goodness you recapped that!

I was afraid you were going to say that I was carrying Laerthar's severed head around.

Which would be awkward.

OOC:
Sorry to act quickly, but this was my initial reaction. Also PLEASE NOTE that we can't attack him, not just because of the parlay, but because I also added the oath there. No attacks unless they break the terms.

Don't want to start intra-party combat. ;)

I was also going to say something similar but Donnell hasn't said anything yet. I'm leaving it up to you guys to sort out. I'm just offering ideas, telepathically. Donnell will pipe in when we're trying to convince him to give us information and help us. Seems pointless to attack him in any case. I'd rather we had him as an ally on the inside.

Hey guys, imho, a good gambit atm is to get as many giants to be in Gimlak’s field of view so he can mass suggestion them. 12 targets, no concentration. And will spell points, Gimlak can cast this many times (level 6). I’d prefer to wait a bit so he can see more than 2 so he doesn’t waste a first casting on only 2 targets.

So let’s either lure them out, or get invited in.

Yeah, I was hoping to get a full delegation instead of one guy but, that said, we can bide our time a bit. I want to see if he will link up to us telepathically

Well, for him to “link up” Gimlak would need to recast the ritual in his presence. 10 minutes, and obvious to the other giants. Best telepathic option imho is Gimlak’s telepathic speech, but he’ll need line of sight to activate and 30 distance at first. A non telepathic way to have contact with him is using the cantrip message (id love to justify that choice). 120 ft range, and if Kahru can spot him and confirm he’s within 120 ft, we’d be good. Is that the case @FitzTheRuke ?

He'll come out and be within 20 feet of you. You can message him if you like. Shouldn't be too obvious to the guard.
