@Tonguez I haven't mentioned Kahru lately. I've assumed that he is hanging around the Crag in hawk-form, avoiding the Frost Hawk and generally hunkering down, observing through both hawk-eyes and telepathing link. I'm aware that Vadasz is in or around the southern spire. Would you like me to throw in a quick post on what you find there?

Yeah, that would be cool:) Kahru is looking for better ways to enter/exit the Crag, observing the Courtyard and tracking what the crew is doing. I sent Vadasz to the South West entrance to see whats inside (and hopefully not get eaten!). Gonna post tonight...

Ha ha ha. I have messed up. Sorry everyone.

The Colonel has the ability to levitate at will, and to cast it once on others, and I thought that would allow for a sneaky entrance. I knew it's concentration, so my sense was we'd have to go in pairs (with Kahru already inside). But that's wrong.

I read the spell, though, and it only takes people up 20'. If I had known that, I had forgotten. But it does mean even the plan to "leap" over the fortress wall wouldn't work. And doing things carrying three individuals up 20' at a time is not going to be reasonable.

So, as I say, I have messed up. I am sure someone other than me is clever enough to find an alternative or a path ahead.

Hey, no worries, I do it all the time. It’s hard to remember all the spells all the time.

So Gimlak can make a few of us fly. The more that fly, the higher the slot. Best would be 2 people (level 4 slot), 1 rider each, with Kahru being able to do it himself. I re-read the spell, and there is no mention of encumbrance, so Gimlak could be #1 and someone else. Duration is 10 min, so that second person should benefit from the flight. Maybe not a front liner.

Also, we’ll need to wait 10 min to redo the telepathic bond ritual.

who wants to fly?
Cheers,

Sg

Which, to me, means that it would follow the normal rules on encumbrance. Which probably means you'd want to cast Fly on the strongest characters, if they're going to try to carry someone. The winds will be a hazard as well. You'll probably do fine, but it's going to be tricky.

EDIT: Looking into it: No one in the party (other than Kahru) is very strong. The good news is, they're probably not very heavy either. Donnell is strongest (at 13), but is probably skinny. I imagine Doc as ropey but gaunt, so he's probably not heavy. The Colonel is probably heaviest. In spite of Gimlak being a dwarf, who I have always imagined as dense-fleshed (for the CON and/or HP boost) he's the weakest, and probably no heavier than Donnell or Doc. So it comes down to equipment. I assume that the Colonel's equipment is heaviest. I'll say that anyone can carry anyone else (other than maybe Gimlak carrying the Colonel) as long as you leave any "non-essential" gear (primarily food and water, and probably things like carpenter's or smith's tools, if you have any on your sheets) behind.

BUT. It will be awkward and slow-going, and possibly dangerous. We're going to need some checks at the very least. Do you want me to run it as a three-round-challenge? @Tonguez can fly down and show the way, which might not always be obvious to someone not used to flying (or not used to flying in these conditions) particularly with the wind in your face, and starting from a place of hiding, where you can't see your destination. AND you want to avoid the Frost Hawk or the Roc-Rider spotting you, or the Frost Giant hearing you when you get closer to the 'window'.

FYI, Donnell has a climbing speed. He can climb. Probably unrealistic to climb 300 feet but if I can sneak back invisibly, I can just walk off the path and climb around to the window. But I think it’s a few hours to get back.

Weird that levitate is capped at 20 feet. What happens if you levitate off a cliff??? Do you fall all the way and stop 20 feet from the bottom?
